I'm looking at a car this weekend on behalf of a mate who is overseas, and would very much appreciate your view / opinion on whether it is priced fairly:

- 1999 Carrera C2, LHD
- Options: Porsche sports suspension, Mk1 GT3 wheels (slightly kerbed),
sunroof, full leather interior, privacy glass
- 53k miles
- Full OPC history, recent minor service
- 1 owner
- Original engine
- New clutch and disks

On at £19,900...

Tks!

Why not throw a few more £££ at it / wait a few months and get RHD?

Nothing essentially wrong with LHD but it's only a short term saving assuming he will sell it again at some time (and selling it might prove difficult).

Some insurance companies load them a bit as well, not sure how much by though.

But great for toll roads in France / Autobahns in Germany!

Thanks guys - LHD is a requirement as the car will be registered in France, my mate lives in Nice and it seems buying here is now cheaper than on the continent...

sleep envy - you or your dealer obviously knows a thing or two - can you / he comment on whether 19,900 is a good price?

Ta.

1 owner. Is that 1 owner on the V5, ie since coming into the UK. Provenance extremely hard to ascertain on imported cars. Similarly remember things like HPI checks are only good for it`s time in the UK.

With LHD even more important to buy on condition.

Yes indeed, much the same as the one you have this was new into the UK and (allegedly) owned by a USAF Major no less...

So how much flexing is there on your '98 Left Hooker to make it sweeter given it's almost no frills, ruffled leather (maybe cover on PM)?

An update, I saw and drove the car on Sat and put a positive recommendation to my mate, who has now put down a deposit subject to clear HPi and it passing the OPC warranty check this week.

Car was in great order, and had been run in Florida for 3 years from new before being flown to Mildenhall with its USAF owner and kept there until now. UK history shows one owner, in Mildenhall with full OPC service history. Downside - whilst the seats were leather the rest of the trim was plastic.

Question for you guys - apart from the extra impact protectors on the rear bumper which I guess will simply unscrew, what other differences are there between a US spec car and a European spec as I couldn't spot any?

And the trader is decent chap named John Pullicino - anyone had experiences dealling with him before?

Double check that all the import taxes have bee paid. I nearly bought a CBR600 from a USAF chap, but the import duty put stop to that.

US cars depending on state have plenty of differences, inc. 4x4 supension setup (even sport). Check on rennlist for further details.

This is a topic I am deeply interested in. Rennlist? Che?

Can I also just say - at this level surely its about how nice a car it is. This is very cheap for a nice 996, by any standards. Assuming of course it has not got any odd US spec issues or tax to pay. If you have driven it I assume that you would have noticed anything odd about the suspension. Did you?

Is Pullicino now back in business? I looked at a 964RS when he was trading as Pullicino Classics. I chose to walk away - it had a steel bonet, 3 magnesium cup alloys and one standard (aluminium) cup alloy....oh and IIRC the mounting bracket for the ABS unit had for some reason been cut away and the ABS unit re-sited.....

Thanks for all your opinions / feedback.

Whilst there was no obvious difference in the drive or spec other than additional impact protectors and the car looked in good condition, my mate has decided not to buy.

Reasons - the car would be heading to France and would require additional spend to convert the headlights and instruments, to ship it and for local registration. In addition it looks like it has had an instrument change on arrival in the UK which may indicate the mileage isn't strictly true.

When you couple this additional spend with the cost of making it less of a poverty spec (adding clear lights front/rear/side, adding a three-spoke steering wheel etc)then the additional 3k puts him range of a very nice example in Germany ready to go, mileage and history certainty, no hassle.

He's already found one and is settign up the viewing. Thanks again for the counsel!
