My ripshifter has developed a rattle at certain revs. Anyone know if there is a way to cure this or do i need to visit MF?

Cheers

Mine rattles sometimes too, it's not a problem, just a sympton of having a direct shifter.

You can get a gasket kit that is supposed to help from the states, depends on how much it bothers you I guess!!

Just to clarify, the rattle that sometimes occurs is actually the knob rattling on the steel shaft. This is all original parts that are retained even when a shifter is fitted. These knobs are fiited with a smear of silicone sealant when clipped on to prevent the plastic knob touching the steel part. Sadly this is not a great idea and is not always succesful. If this is the case fitting a rippy will highlight this as it is a more direct connection to the gearbox.

The knob can be reglued/siliconed on, but it is a serious pain the baclside to do.

I can confirm that as the VE rippy comes with instructions to use silicon sealant on the nob to prevent this. Needless to say I didnt and she is a like a rattlesnake when accelerating. The VE console comes apart a little easier than the previous models so fixing this isnt so bad, aside from punching yourself in the face taking it off again.

Personally, I recommend a little sound proofing on the shaft (layer of dymamat type on the lower shaft) and the USA top gasket. Really shuts it up but you still get the vibration (which is standard).

Do you know if the US gasket fits the VXR8. Bought one from Cobra Bob and he wasn't sure.
The rubber gaiter has split on mine and will be replaced under warranty. Dealer says he will bung it on while he's at it. (if it fits)
