I've got a 2005 focus which has developed a flashing red circular light, situated between the indicator markers on the dashboard. Can anyone advise as to what this could be for please?

Thank you smile

its intermitent, no pattern to it nor does it stay on for long ... quite strange really, like it doesn't know what to do!

(Sorry, I should have added that in the first post)

It's not fog lights smile
thank you for the suggestion.

I feel like I should have a prize ready for the correct answer from my haphazard clues !!!

The light flashes when the car is stood still and when I'm driving.

It's not the hazards, there's a small circle between the hazard markers ..

Read the F******* manual.
Hmmmm ... very helpful. It's at my parents as I thought I'd hide it(all the rest of the car documents are with it) there to stop my ex selling my car while I went to Rockingham. I haven't needed it since then smile

Anway, stop being abusive, I know I'm like Briget Jones, you don't need to rub it in smile

That light is the PATS light (passive anti theft) The light flashes like most cars to tell you the system is active. As in you cars security system. That light tells you what the system is doing and flashes a certain number of times to tell you that there is a fault with the system. If the system is functioning normally the light will flash every 2 seconds when the ignition is switched off.
Many thanks for such a lovely reply. It has no pattern to the flashing, sometimes stops and starts again, continuous ... it seems unpredictable.

So you're driving along and a warning light flashes on, but because you don't know what it is you just keep driving anyway?

Ah, just noticed you're female. wink
I only went to the corner shop for some cigs, thought it might last the journey smile

Does the same light also come on yellow?

Fords have lights that are yellow when slightly cold outside as a warning and then red when it is very cold. It the light shaped like a snowflake?

That'll be my only suggestion. If it is anything else I am afraid I am of no help at all!
No, it is red, no snowflake smile

thanks for the suggestion

As someone else suggested, is it not an ambient temperature warning lamp?

Normally amber at 4 degrees, and red when it drops to 0 degrees
No, its either not on or its red and flashing oddly.
