I've become involved on the edges of a front engine dragster project that will likely run Rover V8 power.

Funds are extremely tight so it seems that either Borg Warner BW35 or BW65 unit will be used as these were OEM fit.

We understand that BW65 was generally considered superior to BW35, but also understand that neither unit was considered particularly good as a drag racing unit.

Perhaps other OEM gearboxes have been fitted and would be better ?

Does anyone have any experience related advice on suitability or "improvements" that can be made to stock unit to improve expected service life or performance that they would be willing to share on this one ?

Thanks in advance...

Jon

Gents,

Thanks for the feedback.

Perhaps I should have made myself a little clearer, this is somebody elses project I'm on the edges of and I'm equiring on their behalf.

The car is intended to be more like a point and squirt RWYB toy rather than a serious race car. As such nothing wild is planned. Pretty much stock everything and likely footbrake launching.

My own longterm project is a RED that will run methanol injected SBC and transbraked long glide. I have the chassis and some of the parts already and the whole thing is laid up for long term storage until I can accumulate enough disposable income to finish it...

Steve, I remember the car in red and yellow livery; called Autocat ?

That is the general inspiration behind my mates idea. What axle were you using ?

Phil, Tet, Eliot, all wise words I will pass onto my mate, especially the crusty Camaro idea.

Nonetheless he seems addicted to the idea of a Rover. He already has a "built" one in his Crapi complete with N2O...

My sister and brother in law live in British Columbia and could ship us a running cutout 4-bolt BBC with TH400 at about £800 all in delivered duty paid to the door but he wasn't interested in that even when I told him he could run exiting numbers all day without any issues.

Many thanks...

Jon
