Were they the greatest ever decade?

What did you enjoy most about them? What do you miss? What are you glad we moved on from?

Entirely broad scope: music, politics/economy, fashion, food, 'technology', cars,...anything really.

Would love to hear some of your typically 80s anecdotes too.

(Apologies if you were born after 1975 - the 80s probably weren't up to much for you)

What brands did people favour in the 80s?

B&H and Silk Cut have been around for years; the pov brands: Mayfair etc, were much later IIRC.

Back to Grifters....anyone connect a bit of cardboard with a peg onto the front forks that obstructed the spokes?
I did this for my 8 year old lad a couple of months ago. He took it for a spin round the village, proud as punch with his motorbike noise. Within hours, every kid in the village had done the same. They thought it was awesome!!!
Bit of cardboard?

I think you mean 'football card'. This is 70s for me, though; you always had a spare Billy Bremner for 'motorbike' usage hehe

FS1E must have been earlier than '77, lads at school had them when I was 16 - 1973.

Wasn't it Montessa that did the 50cc trials bike?
I think the FS1 range started earlier, but the 'E' was '77.

The trials bike I was thinking of was the Suzuki JAYB identified ^^.

And taping off the Sunday zenith of music excitement, the top 40 with kid jensen and all the other dj's who have faded into oblivion.
Oh and the mix tape made on tdk sa tapes. There was something exciting about ripping your nails off attempting to extricate the tape from its cellophane prison.
The mix tape: stolen kisses, desperate hopes for a quick fumble relied on the approval of the mix tape. Kids these days..... Spared the agony of this tortured Sunday ritual.
Radio just occured to me too.

Mike Read, Mike Smith and (very latterly) Simon Mayo were the Radio 1 breakfast show DJs in the 80s.

I have no recollection of listening to any of them though. I wonder what I did listen to?

I certainly tuned into the Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance.

To add:

Oh my fking god - this just made my spine tingle so much - almost brought tears to my eyes

No way. In this case you're entirely wrong, JAYB.

Fair play to TVR1; the photo and the 'list' absolutely place you at 'living the dream' status for 1988 thumbup

Cool things were way more cool than they are today.

Take a trip to American Classics at the bottom of the Kings Road as a case in point. Throw in a bandana, vintage MA1 flying jacket and a pair of cowboy boots from R Soles and well......... cool does it no justice at all

Pretty sure this is still the same lot

http://www.americanclassicslondon.com/

I’ve still got those 501’s and well let’s just say it was a bit depressing wondering how they ever fitted.

For a night out the Buzz Bar just of Leicester Square provided all the action any eighteen year old could ever handle.
For me, favourite clothes shopping haunt was Kensington Market, with a bit of Camden Market and Notting Hill/Ladbroke Grove thrown in for good measure.
