I must be mad ...

I'm moving from a part of the UK with some of the best roads in the country to the Urban Sprawl. Where can you have some car-related fun in the big smoke ?

Head out SE on the A20 and find some B-roads in the Westerham area. Good pub food too

The only twisties I know of IN London are around the back streets (short cuts) of Hampstead village careening through 2 way streets with only 1 car width available, avoiding all the Range Rovers, MLs, and X5 side mirrors and errant tourists walking between the cars. Clio Trophy in 1st and (maybe) 2nd gear is the perfect tool for such endeavours...

Should we even post what are our favourite roads in london are since the wrong people could be reading and use the information to further alienate the keen motorist.

My favourite begins with "S" a nice road up there or it was when I drove it last year, loads of corners, goes on for ages and trees either side so the sound of the car is intensified almost and each time I went down there it was totally empty not a car in sight for 20 minutes; downside is its pretty narrow at some points so not for the big cars.

There is another road up Baldock, everyone knows of it but its usually busy.

surely the best twisties in London are going around Hyde Park corner as you drive down Park Lane! Similarly, coming back up you get 3 chicanes, the challenge is to get past the 2nd one before the people who set off the traffic light at the same time as you are just approaching the 1st one.

Hours of fun, especially at night with light traffic.

Day time even evenings are a pain geting anywhere decent, you'll be dogged by traffic and road raging commuters!

I would suggest the roads in Surrey especially around Dorking, where all the bikers go. If you go down from Central you can pick up the A3 (towards Guildford) from Elephant and Castle or get the A24 and follow that down. Not only are there some great roads out there, but it's really beauitufl. Becareful though gatso's a plenty and the police get a bit pee'd off with the biker hooning around, so keep your eyes peeled if you're planning to go faster than the national speed limit (which I'm sure you're not)

Cheers

Plenty of good roads to be found off the A3 once you get near Guildford area

Second Westerham Just south of London Biggin Hill Airport. (I live nearby in Oxted) I know an awesome route from Woldingham, through Westerham, Edenbridge on to a place called Crowborough. Its the best route I know round here. Not quite the Lake District but this is as good as anything south of London. Camera free too!

Just watch out for potholes and missing manhole covers

I can also recomend Surrey off the A3, traffic is always an issue, late night is often the way forward if you dont' want to be antisocial or get caught up in traffic. I'm gonna be checking out some of the places in the SE shortly.

Big +1 to that, I live in the Guildford area & there are some great roads to play on. (Always fun to be had on the A3 itself too!!)

Down past Sevenoaks, through Ide Hill, past Four Elms, a good left towards Chiddingstone Causeway or right towards Westerham.

Lots of good choices there, whether you lane tight singletrack or faster open roads.

There are some great twisties off the A3 - do it at night and its a hoot. Come off the M25 at Junction 10, but before you get onto the A3 take the left turn (reasonably sharp). 'Tis great for some late night hoonage
