Folks,

After having to sell my beautiful E36 M3 I'm due to return home for a while soon and want to go Bangernomic. Just need something for carting about kit, bikes and the like and a big Bargey estate fits the bill.

I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to used car prices but not looking to spend more than 1-2k, potentially from a local auction house.

Only requirement is that it has a bit of shove. I don't mind tooooo much about driving dynamics, but a decent turn of speed is a must. Fuel bills not a major issue.

Go!

Or Impreza.

See also E class quickest you can afford. Or E39 530i. Bound to be a reasonably quick A6 Avant of a certain age.

As this is Pistonheads... Saab 9-5 Aero. Big, comfy, good turn of pace with a hilarious mid range. Well in budget, lots of choice.

Thanks all, some good suggestions.

I'd considered the Forester but something just puts me off Scoobies. Just not quite luxurious enough inside for my Bargey tastes!

A fast Volvo would seem to fit the bill, but I'm slightly put off by FWD... Any input on how well they drive?

This is probably all moot anyway as I'm likely to rock up at auction and stick my hand up for the first shiney thing wink

Noobtuned for pennies, too. No better bang for the buck if OP's spending 1-2k.

Saab is a great shout, I like the style of them too. Briefly had an old 9-3 a while back and it was quite entertaining. Fingers crossed for an auction Billy Bargain. I'll be buying the week before Christmas so hopefully some deals to be had!

Wander over to UkSaabs Forum. By definition there's some right old dogs around, so if you can find a known car you improve your chances hugely.

Brave pills definitely required, but what's the worst that could happen? (Gearbox, AWD system, suspension...eeeek)

Knock a grand off that and that would get you a 9-5 estate.

My aero was £500 however it's not that healthy however it's mot'd until april and stops , starts and goes.

Fuel wise i get about 27mpg and that's a 2 mile commute to work and then 5 miles up into the hills for a run a couple of times a week , it rarely gets in 5th gear.

This looks lovely. Fingers crossed I can find something similar near the Gatwick area in mid December which would also save me the train fare to the West Country wink

In a straight line and motorways there quick however i'd have another legacy given the choice.

My legacy gtb did everything the saab does but it handled far far better and i had a citroen c5 diesel and that was more than fast enough on the motorway plus it was comfy.
