Neighbours threaten damage on car
Discussion
I was wondering if you could help. My sister parks her car legally outside the house. Not blocking the neighbours driveway but slightly overhanging our no big deal. The neighbour comes around in a rant saying if the car isnt moved then any damage done he wont be liable for. Is he right? From my viewpoint if he damages her car then he has to pay but I could be wrong.
Well, they won't be liable for any damage they don't cause, but will be if they do as its criminal damage!
Personally I'd take the common sense approach and move the car a bit and get the neighbour to come out with you so you can ensure he is happy where you have put it and the situ is diffused.

When you say not blocking their drive do you mean not overlapping the entrance or far enough from the drive so they can get in and out easily?
It could be that due to the width of the road and other parked cars they find it difficult to use the drive if your sister's car is parked too close to the edge of the drive. It could be that parking another foot or so over would solve the problem.
Having a drive that you cannot use because of the way neighbours park can be pretty irritating. They might just start parking in front of your sister's house instead.
Not saying your sister is in the wrong, in fact if this is the problem they really ought to explain that to her not just rant.

Premio has the right idea, he was probably having a bad day, go round and get him to agree parking distance. You will probably find it will change the whole situation.
This. Apply a bit of common sense. Everyone is happy then. Never a good idea to fall out with neighbours. It's not clearly written but the use of the word overhanging suggests she is partially blocking his driveway. If this is correct then I assume this is not a one off so she must have a reason to do this. She needs to talk to him to agree a solution or park elsewhere.

We had this after our opposite neighbour ran into next doors car. He wanted to swing across and in one movement get in. I explained that was not reasonable and that should he do any damage he would pay. He continued to send letters to all the neighbours so I told him that if he continued I would bring home a truck and he could run into it as much as he wanted. No issue after that

I have tried to speak with him but he doesn't want to answer the door to me, I'm not intimidating I'm a wheres wally lookalike haha. She over hangs our drive but not his & he always has attitude not just a one off.
If she can park overhanging your drive, why not just park completely in front of it? Inconvenience to you, maybe - but at least it's kept within the household.Meoricin said:
