Barnes and Noble Nook £29 at currys

Just ordered one of these, I've fancied getting an e-ink kindle for a while but never got round to it, but just found this for £30, apparently they can be rooted to run full android, which means they can run the android kindle app. Seems like a cheap way to see if an e-ink e-reader is for me.
I've also read that the google play market is to become available on Nook's without rooting, but I think that might only be the colour ones.

I've currently got 2 on order - one from Currys and one from Nook themselves, just waiting to see which one gets here first then I'll cancel the second. For £29 delivered it's a bit of a no-brainer as I've also been considering getting a Kindle for some time. I like the idea that it can be 'hacked' to give an Android experience and look forward to having a play. Take a look on HotUKDeals as they have a few threads running there including other places to buy it from. Also plenty of hacking info on the XDA developers fourm.

I'm in the same boat and tempted to buy a Nook this afternoon at that price - anyone familiar with any down-sides (once rooted) vs. a 'real' Kindle? Don't really want to end up 'buying cheap and buying twice'!Ultuous said:

Are you mistaking the Nook eReader with the Nook HD or Nook HD+ tablets? Why would you want to get the "Android experience" on a pure eReader?FlossyThePig said:

Kindle app is a great ironic companion to your Nook. Heck, I have it just to download free samples to my Nook before I buy them from the Nook store.
Indeed, that's why I was asking about rooted!...
Thanks for the link - too nice outside to spend much time reading the net, so that's given me everything I need to know... Looks pretty easy to sort out - I think that's my new toy/ mini project for the weekend sorted!
ETA: Bugger - out of stock everywhere locally... That's saved me 30 quid/ bought me more time to procrastinate anyway!

I got mine from currys instore, as a reader its pretty good, haven't bothered fully rooting it yet but instead i just plug it into my computer and i've set up a programme called calibre that any Kindle books i download, automatically convert in calibre to ePub format and transfer to the Nook. Initial setup takes a few minutes to download the correct plugin but once its all setup its as easy as a couple of clicks.
Not sure if I'm going to bother rooting it at all now, less chance of messing it up this way and its quite slow as it is, so wouldn't want to fill it with rubbish from the play store

I have one on order from Nook, that I don't want, as my one from Currys has now arrived. I've tried to cancel it (it hasn't shipped yet - due 17th as well I think) but Nook tell me that I'll have to refuse it at point of delivery - they can't cancel it now in advance of it shipping! Stupid!
