1986 Jaguar Sovereign 4.2
Discussion
Hi guys.
Without actually meaning to I sold my MX-5 this week so I decided I'd better find another way of spending all my money. I'd always fancied a Jag and assumed I'd end up with an X300 but after a browse on gumtree, a viewing and the handing over of some cash I brought this home tonight. Apologies for the pics, it was getting dark as I got her home

It's a 1986 Jaguar Sovereign 4.2. Owned for the past 11 years by an old boy who spent a lot of time and money restoring it and then passed away earlier this year. The car was MOT'd and taxed in February for the first time in years and has only done a few miles since then. It drove well on the way home though. Full report to follow as I venture into it's little foibles...

An outstanding piece of snatch / lock-stock esque bargery.

Cheers for all the positive comments, it's had a lot of love from people who have seen it. Although 'er indoors remains to be convinced, mainly because it's a bit whiffy inside.
Today was a day of small victories-I managed to get the non operational brake lights to work after freeing off a sticky switch. The indicators which worked for most of last night then packed in have came back-I'm going to have a look and see if I can dismantle the switch and clean the contacts. Only one bonnet catch was working-some WD40 cured this. Slammed the door shut and, er, the wing mirror fell off. That is now fixed although things like door cards are a bugger to get off.
I've noticed a blow from the manifold to (new) downpipe when cold so will have a go at fixing that. Can't get the cigar lighters to work, could do with these for charging phones etc (and lighting cigars of course)
Thankfully the switch to change tanks over works, although neither gauge works properly so I'll have to investigate senders. Oh and the horn, which didn't work at all, now does. Except I have no control over when it does, which does seem to alarm passers by somewhat.
I think this could be the start of a long journey

Ha ha, love it. My very first Jag, way back in about 1991 or so when I were but a young lad of 23, was one of these in Dorchester Grey - D265 ELF was the plate.
I lived in Aberdeen at the time and flew to London to pick it up from some dodgy garage on the North Circular road. Drove it the 500+ miles back home having to spend a night in Dunfermline due to getting caught in a snow storm.
I had it for about 18 months before getting shot as every panel was starting to bubble with rust.
Fond memories of it randomly cutting out whilst driving along. Most impressive was when the return valves to the two tanks got a bit confused one day. I'd just filled up both tanks to the brim and drove off with people starting to hoot and point. Looked behind to see a trail of petrol following me up the road and a 1 foot high gusher of petrol from the beautiful chrome cap above the right hand tank.
You have so much to look forward to.
