Just headed over the fly over and there is a bike under a lorry on the London bound section frown

Road is closed and there are screens up. Traffic backed up to Beckton and beyond.

Take it easy out there guys.

What bike you on croyde?

edit - street triple.

I just made it in. We got spun around on the fly over. We sat there for about 30 minute before the police sent people back.

I felt sorry for the poor chap as the ambulances couldn't get down there.

Word on the "street" was that you are right I'm afraid.

This is the part of the road below

Cars generally sit in the left lane (as you look at the picture) as the right lane peels off elsewhere. Then bikes then aim for the middle of the far left and right lane. It looked as if the lorry had cut across the centre to the left.

Obviously an accident. Don't think anyone's enough of a tosser to do that on purpose.

I'd say hope the blokes okay but bike under a lorry and screens up kinda confirms the worst. Hope not though.

Stay away from buses, HGVs and any large vehicles if you are on a motorbike. Don't even filter past them unless you are very sure you can make it well before anybody starts to move.

One wrong move can turn what would otherwise be a very minor topple over into getting squashed by a truck. 5 or so years living in developing countries and all the fatal bike crashes I've seen (which is a few) have been bike vs truck.

That's awful.

I'm getting back into bikes after a 16 year gap, my whole family are against it and this is why - There's just no protection. And yet, knowing the risks all too well we still feel compelled to take that chance!

Poor person, poor family frown

I have to say that the A13 is the best place in thw World to observe the worst kind of driving. The road is literally heaving with mongs who shouldn't be on the road.

Badly injured but still with us.

http://www.wharf.co.uk/2013/05/rush-hour-choas-cau...

That road is a flipping nightmare. I have been using it for a couple of months now and that 50mph average speed camera bks makes it very dangerous in my opinion although in no way suggesting that this caused today's accident.

With everyone traveling at the same speed so that there is no or little differential between each vehicle makes everyone dozy and stupid. I've been nearly side swiped a number of times by idiots chopping lanes and just not looking, with me in the lane that they want stuck at 50 when I really would like to get past the dozy git in front of me.

According to the above article the accident happened at 0640 but when I went to get my lunch at 1245 by Beckton the A13 was still pretty stationary.

Illegal minicab central.

I stay in the middle lane and generally get everywhere quicker than the tailgaters in lane 3 and undertakers in lane 1 (who crash into cars exiting side roads / garages).

Start breathing when you reach rainham turn off.....

The biker involved is one of my friends and one of my employees. He's been undergoing surgery for most of the day and the next 24 hours are critical. He's only 22 and quite fit which is all on his side so fingers crossed he'll pull through. Apparently the crash was him vs a crane. He would have been exiting the flyover from lane one to get to work. He's been riding for a year or so, first a CBR125 and more recently an SV650. He's a lovely guy but I've no idea what his riding style is like and can't speculate as to blame or cause. Road was closed for five hours for recovery and accident investigation.

It's a horrible stretch of road. I've 22 years driving experience, 3 years ADI experience and 1 year commuting on a CG125 in London and driving this road twice daily for the last seven years it still regularly worries me. I think it's the only road I know where it's dangerous to travel at the speed limit because the average traffic speed is so much higher. I usually aim for as close to the limit as possible because I appreciate the dangers on this bit of road, however most do not so it's not uncommon for the traffic in this 30+ area to be doing well over 50. Add in the terrible lane discipline of East London drivers, the bizzarre central reservation between lanes two/three and the people pushing from lane two in to the lane one queue at the last minute and it's all a recipe for disaster.

I'll let you all know how he's doing when I know some more.

Thank you for taking the time to update us, I wish him all the best for a speedy and full recovery.

In the meantime, welcome to PH and hope you stick around.

That stretch of road is horrible, there is always so much going on.

Thanks again

This happens to be my best friend, he is a very safe rider and has rode those roads many many times before on his commute.

Those roads are some of the most dangerous I know for bad drivers too
