Pretty sure it was just a show rather than a real push for a good time, in the video he doesn't seem to be pushing it very hard.

Just PR. They set a number of Merc cars off at intervals and he pushed a bit on the F1 circuit, found the NS to be very slippery and backed off. It was set up to then have all the cars go under the gantry in a line. Waste of time imho. I was really looking forward to seeing it occur in the flesh and was massively disappointed!

Surely far better PR exercise would to be go there, and make an effort to blitz round there as fast as possible?

I'm sure I heard somewhere that if he went too quick, it would have been considered a test session which is no allowed?

Even if it was old car, old engine, old tyres, and so on?

I don't know why you are all so underwhelmed by this.

It is incredible!

It is a new record!

It is a first for 2013!

An F1 car going 15 miles with no possibility of a pitstop.

not true as its last years car, a driver who's not involved in F1, a non F1 circuit and last years tyres so all information is non valid

should gone for it, could have blitzed the record and gone some way to re-establishing his tarnished reputation

rather he did not to be blunt, it's Bellof's leggacy, somebody that had he not died at Spa, would potentially have eclipsed the great Senna (the video of the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix linked to the other day was the glimpse of what could have been)

I agree in part, but worse will be when Bellof's lap is be eclipsed by a 'road' car, which is not a million miles away.

not going to happen any time soon (unless we are talking about a radical and the like being a road car?)

a quick google points to 6:48.00 for Michael Vergers Radical SR8LM time, some way off 6:11.13 for Bellof....

As far as I know there is no lap record for a circuit starting at turn 4 of the modern grand prix circuit and ending halfway down the Antoniobusche straight on the Nordschleife. Bellof's record was a complete lap of the Tourist circuit only, starting and finishing at the same point opposite the old Ring pits which is on the short straight where the GP circuit joins the Ring.

When he went past us at Adenau his car sounded knackered to be honest, it didn't sound right at all as though only half the engine was working.
