Yeah but nobody who isn't in to their true crime knows who Thomas DeSimone is then or now. Reachers size is part of his character, there is huge emphasis put on that feature throughout the entire series of books. He's supposed to be intimidating.

Sorry, but that's simply not true - sales of around 60 million Reacher books means that a fair proportion of the film audience will have read at least one book.

After all, the film wouldn't exist without the popularity of the books.

Does seem a pointless franchise though if it throws away the key elements. Why not save the money and simply do a similar story.
