The Imposter - Texan boy disappears, then 4 years later turns up in Spain. Or does he?

Well no, of course he doesn't the title gives it away. What I didn't realise was that this is a documentary type movie with both real and actor footage of the events. the talking heads are also a combination of real footage and actors. It's an interesting story of how it came to be and leaves some open questions at the end that gives you something to think about. Looked fantastic in HD, good use of camera angles, sound and music.

It was a bit of a shock as I was actually expecting a drama. However, I stuck with it and it was a rewarding watch. 7.5/10

Just finished watching the John Woo historical action (I'd guess you'd call it) film Red Cliff, every bit as good as the second Lord of the Rings film, fantastic action sequences (set in 280 AD Japan) and kept me hooked throughout. You need to pay attention to who's who as they all wear the same uniforms, but it gets a solid 8/10 from me.

Enjoyed the book, didn't know there was a film smile

Films:

Looper

Really enjoyed it. Good sci fi, good performances, kept me guessing = 8/10 from me.

The Sweeney

About as embarrassingly bad as films get IMO. I never enjoy a film if I don't like the main protagonists, and Winstone and Drew were painful IMO. Worse than that, the girl was an absolute joke.

Add in The Sweeney chasing men with machine guns with their pea shooters, dreadful. 3/10

DREDD

Not bad but not great, just about right for a violent comic book sci fi. 6/10

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy....

really enjoyed the performances, the settings and production but I must have missed something cos the last half hour was a bit baffling...

I might need to watch it again without the aid of Shiraz next time....

I thought it was dreadful. Didn't even try to capture Le Carre's 'voice'; even the 70s TV series was better.

I watched Jack Reacher this weekend.

6.5 - I don't want two hours of my life back, it was enjoyable enough, but only just enough. I didn't get any sense of tension or drama; it all just unfolded too neatly. I guess the Septics like having their stories explained to them.

Read the reluctant fundamentalist and was great. Didn't know there was a film either - will check it out.

Watched Battle Royale - pretty good as you can see the clear effect that film has had on tarrentino and the likes of the hungar games. But also a bit daft and you soon tire of the violence and gore. Funny at times and a few toe curling bits!

7/10

Interesting, I had that one on record so might save it for the weekend.

Star Trek - Into Darkness: I'm biased, I've always liked the Enterprise based Star Treks and this latest film is up there with the best in terms of effects if not in plot. It's still dealing with the early years of the team but they all seem to gel very nicely and Benedict Cumberbatch played a very good villain. There were lots of nods back to the earlier films (one especially but I don't want to spoil anything). I hope they continue to make many more. 8/10

I wonder what contract the cast are tied up to?

Probably the usual 3 film deal.

I didn't enjoy the first reboot film, is this basically more of the same or does it have a better plot?
Both, you won't enjoy it.

I watched Jack Reacher last night.

4/10

Good enough to keep watching in the absence of anything else to watch.
Large parts of it were totally unbelievable. I won't comment on them as posting on my phone and can't activate the spoilers tag. In the books (well, the one I have read) he is meant to be some super stealthy strategician, in the film he cruises round in American muscle cars???

What a load of pony.

Star Trek, Darkness film, awesome. Loved it. Thought the first reboot was goodish.
This was just ace, Benedict made one of the best bad guys I've seen for years.

The Host.

...well I enjoyed it, even if Rotten Tomatoes critic's gave it just 9%. It's got a load of Chrome Lotus Evoras too!

I just watched Men in Black 3 - I thought it was really enjoyable.

Did I imagine all the bad reviews?
