And it's supposedly the Tories that are unhinged?

Not sure why the mind would boggle at group marriage. Why is monogamy the only acceptable form of marriage? If 3+ people want to marry; why shouldn't they be allowed to?
It's a good question; the bible says it's fine...

Looks like Labour are coming to the rescue of Dave as some Tory MPs attempt to stall the legislation.

I'm really not sure why Cameron raised this issue in the first place however now that he has, I hope the bill is passed.

Well, quite.

Of course same sex couples should have the same rights as everyone else, and if that includes the facility to have their imaginary friend in the sky bless their union, then so be it.

However given the economic st the country's in, is this legislation really a priority?

It has nothing to do with imaginary friends.

I did wonder why something that is as 'fringe' as this should have had so much time and effort ploughed into it, more so when considering the dire state of the economy and a myriad of issues that surely need addressing more urgently.

Then it clicked, it is obvious that Cameron has been told to implement this from the EU hierarchy - and Cameron is too chicken to admit that he has no choice, lest he be found out to be nothing more than a puppet in what is essentially a vassal state.

You don't think it could be anything about being the right and decent thing to do in a civilised society, do you?

I'm sure many people thought giving women the vote was equally 'fringe' as was giving darkies the same rights as decent white folk. rolleyes

And it wouldn't take so much time if there wasn't so much ridiculous infighting.

This has nothing to do with the EU and excuses that the government shouldn't be doing this becasue of the state of the economy are just that: excuses from people who don't want to admit that they just don't like the idea of poofs getting married.

It’s something that in a few years no one will understand what the fuss was about. As to the Tories getting in such a furore about it all, why? If as the original poster puts it, the Tories are set to become unhinged? All they are doing is becoming a laughing stock over something about which most people haven’t even got an opinion, nor care that they haven’t.

The antis have made fools of themselves over this non-issue (unless you really hate the gays) and the fact that the Conservative party leadership has had to do a deal with Labour to get equality legislation passed really doesn't reflect well on the party.

This is such a total non-issue to everyone other than a tiny minority who make up increasingly implausible objections to just levelling the playing field and granting equal legal rights to gay people.

You do know that the Government does more than one thing at once, right?

As someone else said, nothing to do with the EU.

As to the time and effort ploughed into it, perhaps CMD thought, as many people did, that something like this would go through on the nod. What possible argument could there be for treating gays differently from others? If the legislation was for, for instance, blacks to get married then those who objected on whatever grounds would be ridiculed. I'm hardly in the first flush of youth and in my days homosexual behaviour in men was an offence and I am stunned that such legislation should be seen as 'fringe'.

About this entire issue (and many others), either way I am not personally fussed about the outcome. What does concern me if the time spent on it and the order of priorities.

As an example its like us all being marooned on a desert island, and in order of priority for survival:

1/ Solve the gay issue(s)
2/ Find shelter
3/ Find food

Pray tell us what the order of priorities are at the moment?

Indeed. Phrases like swivel-eyed loons spring to mind. It's a pity these nutters don't ask themselves why they are perceived that way, but I doubt self-examination was ever their strong point ... phnarr
