I saw this Morris 1000 in Hastings to-day: Also am I right in thinking that this is a late model?
Indeed it is, saloon production ended November 1970, although Travellers and commercials continued longer. That one was first registered 28-01-1971 so a VERY late one.
Brings to mind early 1971 my Dad was a mechanic at Warwickshire County Garage, on Waterside in Stratford on Avon, I used to go with him on Saturday mornings to just be around the cars and see what went on. They had 2 of the very last Morris Minor saloons in stock, one white and one powder blue, brand new unregistered, and in the showroom under sheets was the Minor replacement the new model Morris Marina, I was allowed a sneaky peak, before they were presented to the public. Our next door neighbour, a carpenter bought the powder blue Minor that weekend YUE846J if my memory serves me correctly.
I went in with my dad when he did the PDI and sprayed the underside with a silver/aluminium paint and then undersealed it. He took the opportunity to underseal his own 1959 Morris Oxford XOF986 a dark green saloon. The workshop was above the showroom, being a town centre garage, and cars had to be taken up in a lift to be worked on.....
Here's the VP mentioned. It's in a village called Mortemart in the Haute-Vienne (87). I haven't been through there for a while but - when it stops raining and warms up, if ever - I'll take a look and see if it's still there. I know someone with a hydrolastic pump...

I had a lovely Daimler just like the one in your pic but '64. It went the way of my marriage. Sigh...
