The Port Talbot one is a little nuanced though as it's actually 2x different sections:

The section through the middle of Port Talbot was reduced to 50mph to cut noise, due to the proximity to the houses - I get that and happy to comply.
Why not use noise barriers, as per countries from Holland to Japan?
At a guess, wind loading would be one issue (it's raised at roof height as mentioned) and that much of the noise is carried through the deck.

Low noise surfacing?

As well as cutting noise, apparently the houses around that section had some of the worst air quality figures in Europe before the speed reduction, so that actually was part of the point too. But no excuse for the extension.

Assuming the offending emissions were NOx and particulates, how much improvement did the 50 limit achieve?

Remind me about 14 years of Tory "war on motorists"
The main anti-car areas of the UK:

London (ULEZ) - Labour
Oxford (Very anti car) - Labour
Bristol (ULEZ... Anti car...) - Labour (though I believe it's now Greens)
Wales... - Labour

So tell me about the tory "war on motorists"...

...actually, don't bother coz you don't actually engage in the 'conversation'.

M
remembering of course the fake claim made by our PH Senedd rep that the tories voted for the 20mph speed limit in Wales.

So this whole thread IS politically motivated then?

I knew it, I even called it out once and was told it wasn’t.
Imposition of 20mph limits on 37% of Wales road network is politically motivated. It's blatantly anti-motorist.
They even stated that as number one on their aims, to discourage the use of cars and encourage people onto public transport, which is limited in areas outside the major cities

Following Tory laws imposed on local government to improve air quality. Starting in 1995 requiring reporting, 2010 air quality standards and 2017 NOx standards and the Environmental act 2021 which imposed penalties.

And the 2015 Boris policy that created ULEZ...

Labour will only be continuing the good work that the Torys have done. Credit where credit is due.
Ah. A lefty loon. That’s what it’s about!

I have actually used the bus recently on a few occasions. I haven't found it that bad at all, and I quite enjoy it. And, to be fair, it only takes an hour for a journey that's already 20 minutes by car. Admittedly not including the 3 mile walk to the bus stop, and you can't get to where you actually want to go. But apart from that, it's brilliant.

Senedd don't like their blanket 20mph speed limit being called that

Members of the Welsh Parliament have been told not to use the word blanket when referring to the country's 20mph speed limit.
Presiding Officer Elin Jones has written to all Senedd politicians warning them not to use the term in the chamber.

All the more reason for both sides of the debate to engage in the conversation. Obviously, you've all written to your local MS already, right?

For what purpose? No speed limits will be raised up from 20 back to 30 no matter what anyone says.

This whole excersise is just to deflect the blame and attention on to councils and away from where it really should be.

Ah the old "do nothing and complain when nothing happens".

Remind me how well attended these anti-20 protests have been? Did they reach a dozen?
