The car was dried out and then got wet again so stop punting the previous owner floodgate theory.

Reality is leaks are hard to find unless you strip car back to metal. Issue is this costs a fortune and will result in a rattly car. Finance company will pay out and 35p a mile is very very reasonable for all in motoring.

Ok, what should hopefully be closure for this topic

Finance company and supplying dealer continued to argue against taking the car back, despite their own assessor telling them tne fault was present at point of purchase, in his opinion

After much back and forth he went to the Ombudsman

Decision came back. Car to be returned, no charges to be made for depreciation or mileage in the ownership period. DealerFinance to pay compensation for the monthly payments since the assessors report, inconvenience and hire when they couldn’t provide courtesy etc. Around 2k due back

Car being collected Monday

Replacement sorted and due for collection Tuesday. Not a Volvo!

Good outcome in the end, but it’s a joke that it took 6 months of aggravation to get here

I’m glad he got the result he wanted.

But situations like this happen elsewhere in life when you are the third spoke on a wheel and the other two feel they are both right. Its exactly why we have ombudsmen.

Yes, but why are you so involved?

I think you said it is your son-in-law's car. Presumably he is a responsible adult, after all he can afford to buy Volvos.

Why doesn't he sort it out himself?

Unsure why you think he didn’t

I’m merely relaying the detail of what’s has been happening on this thread

Only direct involvement I’ve had is going to see the car with him the first time it was at the dealers for investigation

That's great news, glad you got it all sorted. Hope he gets on better with the new car.

Good outcome, well done on persevering.

Dealer should hold their head in shame.

Why was nobody investigating why the light was full of water, surely not a coincidence?

Has it had a tow bar fitted, they often tap into the light electrics and damage the light cluster seal.
