Any experts on these here?
I have started to hanker for one of these in rally setup and was wondering which one is a good deal.

Its a bit overwhelming trying to decipher the mark ones and twos and mexicos etc.. from each other. Any good websites decicated to these? I am looking for a rally specced car, so what bits should I look for in a car? Not interested in paying more than 4-5K so the BDA powered stuff is out, but a bulletproof engine would be nice.

The car will be used for general hoonage and the occasional beginner rally this winter.

Cheers

www.theescortagency.net or www.jasonlepleymotorsport.co.uk

also do a google service for the AVO owners club (Fords Advanced Vehicles Operation) which would include Mexicos, rs1600s and the like. There are alwaysa few on eBay but they usually include wording such as "project" and "needs minor welding". Might be worth a look though. There was a 1600 Harrier on there recently as well as a bubble arched MK1 shell so if you donr mind doing a good bit of work over the winter......Even good 1300 ghia cars are going for a lot these days as shell donors.

To be honest, i dont think you will find one for under 5k rally prepared, though buy and Motoring News and as early on a wednesday morning as possible as anything cheap in there alwasy seems to have gone by midday! I think you best bet is to call the trade advertisers and have a chat with them, see if they are expecting anything in the next few weeks or see if they know anyone who can help...
