Ohhhhh!Big scale GT40.
Want one but not sure I can do it justice.
My only observation is that so far everything is made out of ABS not the regular styrene.
Fortunately it’s all either push fit or screwed together.
The next step in the instructions is the rear suspension. That should give a good idea of how it will turn out. I’m a bit worried it will end up like one of those magazine model kits, but we shall see.
Here’s the rear suspension (still painting the parts for the dampers)
It’s all the screws that hold it together that make it feel a bit toy like.
It might be a genius design though and none of the screws will be visible on the finished model..
Once everything on the rear suspension is fitted to the chassis I will do some very light weathering.

Using screws to hold stuff together is quite common on larger scale bike & car kits, if your that bothered it is possible to source scale hex head bolts to replace the screws. It’s all the screws that hold it together that make it feel a bit toy like.

I’m not massively bothered about it.
Thanks
It’s been a frustrating couple of days.
Firstly I painted the body the wrong colour. I think I got the correct paint for the gulf mk1 that won a couple of years later.
I managed to get something more suitable and change the colour.
Next; the decals for the “eye brows” were pretty bad. Basically they didn’t fit and were so thick they wouldn’t conform to the body without a lot of wrinkles. So, I painted them instead…
The next job is to paint the inside of the front and rear clams in matt black. I’m going to hand paint them 1. Because it’s easier and 2. It looks like the originals were hand painted.
Anyway here’s the front clam.

I guess it was somewhat inevitable that I would run into a problem at some point.
In an almost poetic ode to Ken Miles 1966 Le Mans race the doors don’t want to stay shut.
So the next job is to try and get the thing apart without destroying it to ascertain the cause of the issue.
It was all going so well…..

Magnets?Although the way I am currently feeling about it I might employ the approach they used in the movi and hit it with a rubber mallet.

Magnets?I’ve ordered some magnets off Amazon in a couple of sizes.
Some remedial work is going to be needed, but hopefully they will be sufficient.
