As for the gearbox, again, no-one really knew. It probably wasnt all the clever, just they came into the sport with no preconceptions and a presumably large budget, so did what everyone else was thinking about.
I thought it was just a normal derailleur / chainring setup, but inside a sealed unit. This pic was leaked at one point...

I'm sure it's got some system that locks the suspension to avoid 'bob'. Pretty sure the company I used to work for had a hand in designing that unit.

Also, maybe not the coolest thing ever but thought these Formula Student uprights were pretty cool when I finished designing and building them.

BTW great thread, really appreciate good engineering.

Suspension was Showa, and AFAIK it was a single pivot frame, with the pivot aligned with a chain idler so there was no chain growth/shrink. :geek:

The Millau Viaduct

The other end of the scale is Intel's 45nm silicon process, a human hair is about 90,000nm in diameter.

Millau just for the scale of it. I hope to get there sometime next year.

Burj Dubai - Its not pretty but it is amazing, I saw it 18 months ago and it was already massive, now it must be mindblowing.

Edited as I posted too late and spelt it wrong....

The Millau's very impressive, but this one isn't bad for 1859...
