If you order through Burger King app and don't collect your order you get charged anyway.

Few weeks ago ordered a Burger King but there was some sort of road closure and by the time I got to the shop it was closed, but they charged me for the order.

Emailed Burger King a few times since but they are ignoring my emails.

Won't be using Burger King ever again.

Obviously you got charged. Or do you think they should only cook it when you arrive to collect?!
McDonalds don’t cook food to order unless you are modifying something.
That is how KFC works and Burger King don't cook it to order either, Burger King is a fast food place. How would an app order and cooking it to order work anyway if there is no arrival time

I'm pretty sure they DO only cook to order now, and have done for a few years. Or at the very least they "assemble" to order - gone are the days where you'd have a stack of fully assembled burgers sitting there waiting for an order to come in.
OK so how does it work?, Used to use Burger King a lot, I make an order say 20.00, how does Burger King know how long it will take me to get there, how big the queue at the drive through will be, I have been sat in drive through queues for 30 minutes. At what point do they cook to order

Comparing Burger King to a proper restaurant is just silly.

Edit, how do they cook to order if I just turn up?

It's a very long time since I went to Burger King, but why do you have to order in advance of arriving? Surely it's fast food?

Arrive
Ask for food
Pay for food
Collect food
Leave

What am I missing?
You get points if you do it on the app, it is also easier because all you do is give a reference instead of having to order through a speaker and avoids any communication problems.

What a bunch of absolute rotters, they had the temerity to charge you for food, you ordered, but didn’t collect; what is the world coming to!
They didn't loose anything,

Their competitors don't charge.

Either they made the food in advance, ready for you to pick up, and therefore the food had to be thrown away when you didn't collect. Ergo it's right for you to be charged.

Or they don't make the food in advance, in which case what's the point of pre-ordering? confused
Again it is Burger King, fast food, they don't make food to pre order, there are no Michelin rated chefs cooking your food in the few minutes it takes to give your order at the speaker to driving up to the pick up window.

If they want to take the money I am fine with that, but I should still be able to pick up the order when they are open, next day.

That's precisely how the McDonalds app works, you check in when you arrive and they charge you at that point.
OP should have gone there then.
I ordered McDonalds on the app, checked in when I arrived, but then got an urgent phone call and I had to rush away immediately without my food. And I got charged, and they won't refund me. What a rip off! rolleyes

Errrr, different restaurants have different methods of doing things. So what? If you don't like the BK system, don't use BK.
Difference is that you got there, registered your presents and they did get your order ready, Burger King didn't.

I mean next time I go into Tesco and take something of the shelf then decide I don't want it they should charge for it anyway as the freshly made it

I won't be using Burger King, sadly.

the bk apps also makes you check in, upon which it charges you, at least it used to. different to the mcdonalds app, you dont have to be nearby to check in, again at least in the past. as bk is so slow usually do it 15 mins away.

as for all the they dont make it from scratch folk. not cook or make, but definitely ASSEMBLE it from scratch, no chains have ready made things sitting in the heater waiting to be plonked in an order on the off chance someone orders it, especially not always low traffic BK's, which probably do cook most from scratch as they are always dead and food would be off. its why fast food is no longer fast, especially bk. kfc is quicker but not really much to assemble unless you have a burger/wrap.
Yes, Burger King is quite slow and there are times I have waited for ages at the window, KFC is a little better, McDonalds is usually quite fast.

Weeks after writing to them, I did get a reply yesterday, apologising for the inconvenience and are looking into the problem.

I guess they must read PH?
