I managed to avoid knowing who had won it, always enjoy this around the New year time. smile

I'd expected Trey Mitchell to do better in he final but the winner wasn't a big surprise from the qualifying heats. I won't spoil in case not seen yet....

My son and I love watching this every year, I've been a fan for many years.

Seeing Brian Shaw and Mark Felix calling it a day on their WSM careers was a shame as such big names in the sport.
at 57 Mark Felix is something else

I missed most of the qualifiers but managed to watch the final yesterday. Anybody know why the winner seemed to be getting booed at various times?

Mitchell Hooper is an interesting competitor compared to the rest of the field. Ran a 3:24 marathon in 2016 and yet is incredibly strong, 525lbs for 24 reps in the squat beating Tom Platz’s record. A true all rounder
Platz was just a very strong bodybuilder, not an international strongman competitor like Hooper. Also Platz was known for doing that sort of lift quite regularly over the years.. .

Ahh...

I thought it was booing too tbh and thought it was because of USA rivalries.

I love strongman Jamie Reeves is the guy I recall on record breakers he lifted a car on a frame with Roy Castle and the women in it, literally stood up with the weight attached via a harness

Deadlift is a much harder movement than farmers walk...not denigrating that incredible achievement just pointing out the lifting mechanics involved will always limit the barbell lift.

Thought the big Canadian lad was really impressive although I suspect big Tom was not 100%. He is so young, he didn't 'look' as WSM ready as the last two competitions but perhaps he hit an early peak. I may be wrong here but having been around various WSM and local strong men and powerlifing competitors for many years now, I think Tom has the potential to be the greatest of them all, but he'll have to give up his youth to perform at the level needed year in year out, and that's some ask.

Pavlo Kordiyaka was a breath of fresh air. He is so lean for a strongman but his strength and athleticism was incredible.

It feels like there's a changing of the guard doesn't it.

Didn't Tom take 9 months out, maybe that hindered him, he just didn't look on it like has previously done.

I remember him making a misjudgement in the Husafell stone event. Has anyone worked out what the scores would have been if he'd finished first in that?

Lol, I remember an interview with him, they asked him why he decided to become a strong man. He said the first time he went to the gym, he deadlifted 200kg without any training and thought he might be onto something. I don’t think I could deadlift that much with all the training in the world!

Wouldn't have mattered as Hooper would have been second anyway and I'm sure he won by 4.5 points in the end.

Watched it today... Hooper totally outclassed everyone this year. He was a level beyond the others.

It was like watching Marius.

Good. I'd not have liked it to be down to that. The winner did deserve it anyway.

Loved WSM for years and years - watched it as a child and watch it with my own children now. I was there when Eddie Hall deadlifted the 500kgs in Leeds and it was just the most fantastic achievement and atmosphere. I like to be as fit and healthy as I can myself, but no way would I ever attempt what these guys do. It's quite incredible! Will miss Mark Felix getting wheeled out every year... absolute nutter. biggrin

Just seen the 2024 result.
Congrats to the winner. As always some of the achievements these blokes do are amazing.

Just a shame the TV coverage is only shown at Christmas.
Eddie Hall has some blogs on his YouTube channel showing the individual event results.
I can imagine it's a fun few days as a spectator.

Thanks for not giving it away. I really like it as part of Christmas/NY TV but it is a bit odd to wait that long. For ages I didnt even realise the delay was that big.
