biggrin. I liked the TV show and it would be kinda neat to own the actual car, but that buyer must have REALLY wanted it. Bonkers (IMHO).
Not just the buyer but the underbidders as well.
Not a lot different to the 100k or what ever it was, that someone paid last year for the pair of 'Bodie & Doyle' ex-Professional's Capri 3.0S's.

I would have thought that it was in Derek's interest to find out about the TV show, rather than just remain wilfully ignorant of it and make himself look like a miserable old git as a result.

He had a look of mild bewilderment on his face when the hammer went down.

I’m a fan of the show and had registered to bid but it was almost immediately over my limit!

The 1.8 Berlinetta hatch looked like a bargain in the end, was it 5700 or something or did I hear wrong. Not a lot in this day and age for a usable, solid classic.

I thought the original estimates were a bit optimistic. It was a Berlinetta, not a GT/E and it's the latter that's desirable because that's what the rally cars were based on.

I would say so. I reckon it only sold for big money as the show is fresh in people’s minds. Few years down the line and it’ll probably get the extra £500 over a ‘normal’ TR7 that Derek was on about.

Very likely, especially as the guy who bought it lived in the place where the show was filmed as well, so he really wanted it.

Pretty much paid a 300% premium over an equivalent condition tin-top TR7.....just for the TV connection.....!!

It was cheap because it was a hatch, not a coupe and yes, lesser spec. I had a '79 2.0 Sr Berlinetta coupe, but not sure if you got the Berlinetta as a coupe in the later 'shape'? If you did, and had the car been a Berlinetta spec coupe I'm sure it would have done very well. You did get GTE hatches, less valuable than coupes

I always thought the hatch was more sought after back in the day?

Yes, after a later negotiation.
