My Merc went from £400 ish to £1100. I don’t think I’ve paid 4 figures for insurance since I was a teenager.
I presume you shopped around for a better quote than £1100?

I did, but only secured a price still double last year.

Lack of parts availability due to Ukraine, especially bits related to electricals. The manufacturers don't see the point in creating a new supplier for a model they no longer make. Lack of using some nous and sourcing something second hand, coupled with the greed of accident management companies.

Yep, my insurance went up 25 percent, even with shopping around. 15 years of no claims, age, and a very boring postcode didn't help.

Yes, something I’ve complained about before yet everyone tells me I’m an idiot. As buy them in Tesco at the price you show, but get ripped off by a different product that isn’t in their clubcard offer but maybe is in Sainsbury’s or Morrisons or wherever. So you’re have to trawl wound the whole lot not to get ripped off?

IMO it sucks. They’re all fking with us but noone cares

It's hard work with the Lidl app making sure the product code and weight is the same as the one on offer.

Is it worth shopping around for utilities at the moment?

No EV so just a general need for gas and electricity, got chucked at the hell that is British Gas after a supplier failed, and they are awful.

So Energy have been okay for a few years. Don’t make it easy for those of us resisting ‘smart’ meters to submit readings online.

I understand it’s still not the time to set fixed rates, other than perhaps for certainty/budget purposes.

I've been with EON for quite a few years. Apart from the 'you need a smart meter letters' had no issues at all. The app is great, see all your statements etc and submit meter reading through it. You get your new statement within a couple of days of submitting a reading.

£1.60 for some bags of inert gas with a couple of crisps at the bottom.
Save £1.60 & stop buying them!
Won’t be missed..

OK so it sounds like changing would be either for the sake of an EV type tariff or just to get away from BG, not actually for a better deal per se, that sound fair?

Their billing is fine, the language terse and demanding, and customer service lacking. Which makes the second option possibly appealing given other companies seem to be better, but maybe I'll wait in the perhaps forlorn hope there is ever actual competition for rates and customers in the future...

Since the demise of the the My supermarket app shopping around is not so easy even though many supermarkets are close together Sainsbury, Lidl, Asda and Tesco are within walking distance of each other in the town i am in.

There is Trolley.co.uk, but the app isn't as good as Mysupermarket used to be, rumours are this will fold too.

All utility firms, energy especially, are greedy, grasping s.

I have somehow, steadily amassed £725 credit on my account this year. I will be having a word if, once 2024 tariff hits, this does not unwind.

It’s called competition and we do have the competition watchdog to investigate those methods of competition.

As a counter, my motorbike insurance dropped from £190.44 last year to £130.87 this year.

I'd agree with that with one exception re 'energy'.
Been with Octopus for a while now since installing solar (prev was Scottish Power - I'm convinced they have only one person working in their offices!). Can't fault Octopus at all, which is unusual for me!
When you call them... they actually 'answer'! And when they say they'll call back or be in touch, they do! I'm not used to this!!

Daughter has just changed from 'fking' British Gas on her change over to Octopus. BG had the cheek also to ask for a ridiculous 'leaving fee' which I've told her to refuse to pay (Been in touch with a newspaper consumer champion and they reckon give it a few days and daughter will receive 'We are sorry, this was an oversight on our part, please accept enclosed cheque for your inconvenience.' I've done this before and it always works. The majority of people sadly just cough up. Fools, but I admit you do need to waste a bit of your precious time, but I have plenty of it (time that is) when it comes to retrieving £££s.

…is this yet another inflation busting rise that I should suck up, or just a bit of renewal gouging? £140 to £200
