Gone Amber for us…

I have got some windows and doors to fit in Dundee on Thursday and Friday. The woman is adamant that she wants them done.
Everything is pointing at that amber warning switching up to red.

Sandbags are out up in Ballater. Only a fortnight ago it was on the brink of flooding. Too many times in recent years and it sounds like defences can’t be built because of wildlife concerns.

These next few days are going to be somewhat ‘interesting’.

I have just watched that deep dive video, I am going to phone her up tomorrow and see if she is fully aware how bad it is going to be. Just hope if she does cancel that the forecast is right.

HiRes models are beginning to predict 25-30cm of rain to fall in localised spots in Aberdeenshire over about 48 hours. That is just a crazy amount of water.

Last time this happened was Storm Frank in 2015 and we had static caravans taking off down the Dee…

Due to start raining with me at 9am tomorrow and not really stop until Sunday night.

Fck.

You reminded me about Storm Frank - will never forget the video of the caravans floating into and severely bending the Cambus O May bridge.

MetOffice have upgraded the wind warning to amber too, along that Scottish Coast.

This is beginning to look very nasty, indeed.

Fair play to the MetOffice - they warned early and warned well. People will still be caught out by it...

I was just chatting to someone up that way. He said the schools have already announced they are closing for two days and people certainly seem to be preparing. He was getting wood and candles/torches in as power-cuts are likely. There will always be some people who dont get the message - I said to my wife it was going to be raininy for the next few days as there was a big storm coming and she knew nothing about it. To be fair we are not in the amber or red area and it wont be too bad for us

Yeah they put a yellow warning up early on Monday, which I thought was brave but was a good call.

MetOffice said no rain till later this afternoon. BBC said rain from lunchtime.

Went with the MetOffice, hung the washing up outside. It rained at lunchtime.

We're in the middle of a forest halfway up a hillside in Aberdeenshire so definitely keeping an eye on the forecast.

Indoors - we have woodburners, candles, hurricane lamps, head torches in daily use anyway so fairly well prepared. Dewalt USB battery adaptor is handy for topping up phones but can use the car if we really need to.

Outside - cleaned out some backup drainage ditches around the house this morning, filled the pickup with diesel and bought a few gallons of fresh petrol in case I need to do any chainsawing once everything calms down. Will park the cars out in the open away from trees just to be sure.

Oh wow, so right in the thick of it. Sound like you are well prepared though. Stay safe!

Yup, just spent lunch time doing a wee bit of prep too. Anything remotely moveable into the garages. Cars garaged or moved. Torches on charge, stocks of candles and wood nearby.

A little worried about the trees right around us as 6 acres on our back border has just been clear felled two weeks back and now unsure of what shelter they gave.

But, more worried for the folks on the riversides or lower ground. The Dee is gonna rise quite a bit.
