Buying on Facebook market place can be excellent so long as you adjust your ability to communicate with folk that may not be that good at communicating
My wife has finally cottoned on to second hand toys

A baby play set might cost 35 in Sainsbury’s

Got exactly the same for £5

Kid doesn’t know or care, marvellous times

I find buying easier than selling as it pins you down waiting in etc

Yes
Got a big box of lego and seeing the youngests face when she opened the "new" lego container that was twice the size of the old one was a delight.
When I bought it the stuff went into the sink with soapy water and disinfectant (not Dettol !)
A bit of scrubbing and rinsing then into some net bags and through the wash.

Recent purchases included a load of Disney DVDs, radio for a bathroom,

Not for connoisseurs of used second hand toys. Search for worn shoes, tights and underwear. I'm making a fortune with my fake female profile and wearing stringy thongs for resale, although the chafage is high. biggrin

Selling is awful.

I buy lots from there however. Usually furniture or plants.

My brother is selling an xbox and monitor.
He has ended up with 100+ messages, all similarly worded, and the few he has replied to all ask for his email, full name, bank details, then send a link for him to login so they can send the money from their "business account".

One 'buyer' he was absolutely sure was genuine, when you look at their actual FB profile, appears to have transitioned over the tail end of last year from a young black girl in Nigeria, to a friendly looking old white guy living in Shropshire biggrin

Absolute waste of time selling anything like that.

Marketplace seems to have become much worse when it comes to scam ads on hijacked accounts

I must have blocked 50 people this past week, even the legitimate looking adverts i messaged about at the weekend turned out to be scams.

You'd think it wouldn't be too difficult for Meta to filter them out, especially if someone suddenly lists 50 cars for sale
The 50 cars thing is crazy, 68 year old Wendy from Winchester must have got bored and decided to sell cars for a massive loss. Hownit continues is baffling

Yep.
I have been looking for a cheap car for my youngest son.
Every time I see something half decent it turns out that the seller has 90 cars listed, the car I am looking at is listed as being in Bristol yet the seller lists their location as Aberdeen and I can find exactly the same car, with exactly the same pictures being sold by 2 other sellers in totally different locations.

Somehow Meta has no interest in stopping this and no method of reporting it.

I've bought plenty from FB. Those that are looking for that hard to beleive bargain are being conned by their own inbuilt malice.

Cars are a real problem on Marketplace. I had exactly the same experience trying to find a car for my son.

On the flip side I'm trying to sell a really cheap car and I get lots of "is it still available?" messages, and then nothing. Those that do come back and arrange a viewing never turn up. I'm currently waiting to see if the guy that was coming at 4pm will eventually arrive!

I have got some non car bargains though. We got a dehumidifier for £15, and about a week ago we got a lawn rake/scarifier for £25. I've also got rid of load of bulky items that would have otherwise gone to the tip.

I bought my current car from FB Marketplace. Drove 80+ miles to Cockermouth and did the deal with a very decent chap. £12.5k private sale not sure how that fits the demographic.

If you're not doing a (mini) build thread on that greenhouse then I think you should - that looks awesome!

Just picked up a 6 speed Brompton C Line for my wife (to match mine, she was "well jel" as hers was an older 3 speed). Absolutely immaculate, flame lacquer, incredibly keen pricing at £600.00.

Messaged the guy, asked for phone conversation, all seemed legit, genuine reason for sale (inheritance/bereavement), pukka FB profile, only one or two totally unrelated items for sale, frame number all good. I immediately re-arranged the diary, went to his home address in a respectable area, was offered a cuppa, paid cash and went on my way.

He said he'd had people offering him more than asking (I'm not surprised) but we'd agreed the deal and I was on my way and he just wanted a genuine buyer.

I cleaned the dust off and blew the tyres up, the bike is absolutely stunning and my wife is delighted with it. My turn to be "well jel" as I think I prefer the colour scheme to my Black Lacquer. And honestly, looking at the state of the tyres/chain/brake blocks/drivetrain, I'd be staggered if the bike has done any more than 50 miles in it's life, it's basically new.

Do NOT, repeat, Do NOT try to sell a second hand phone on FB marketplce.

For years I have sold bits of old sporting kit, things the kids have outgrown, some furniture etc etc. Even a car. Not really had any issues.

This week though has been a barrage of messages about the phone, all from folk with minimal profiles, profiles clearly not in the UK etc. Some have been brazen enough that in first message to be lining up the complex scam...Just chaos.

I have removed the phone from sale...

On the topic of buying secondhand kids stuff be prepared for it to be filthy and you won’t be disappointed.

I always sell spotless stuff but people price it in their minds as needing a really good clean so there isn’t any benefit. It’s lowest common denominator.

We sold a bike trailer recently. I jetwashed it and scrubbed it, even though it was barely used, replaced a few rusty bolts and generally made it look very presentable. We put it up for £40 and eventually sold it a woman for £30, after sending her god knows how many photo`s and a walkaround video, as well as asking numerous questions. Her husband collected it and seemed very happy with it, but I assume when he got home, his wife started firing abusive messages and demanding her money back as it was "filthy". She raised a dispute with Facebook, which instantly got closed down when my wife showed them the photo`s and messages. We even said if she returned it to us, she could have her money back, but surprisingly enough, she never did.
On the other hand, I recently bought a Land Rover branded dog bed that was listed as used, but was absolutely immaculate and even came in the original bag. All for half the price of a new one too. Our dog refuses to use it, but I like it, so it`s staying laugh

I sold a pair of Vikingette1's roller blades along with a elbow/knee/hand protection set. They were immaculate because by then she'd became really good at it and never fell over. Lady messaged and asked to collect them. She turned up with her daughter and I offered her a seat to try them on. The lady insisted they were fine, paid and drove off. A week later I get a message to say they don't fit, and her daughter had used her birthday money to buy them and could she have a refund. Being a softy I agreed. Vikingette1 was home and I said to refund the money buy to make sure the protection set was returned too, which it was.

Over dinner I asked V1 what shoe size she was - adult 4. So the blades should have fitted the young girl. Curious I look on the womans Facebook profile and there were pictures of her daughter attending a roller blade party zooming around in the blades....Cock!
