Not that it's much consolation to those suffering, but I have had a cold, temperature, malaise etc each month since February... Each only lasted about a week or so. I put it down to the joys of the Tube.

November, and so far December have been OK - despite the rest of the Lima household getting something, the kids were hit very hard for a couple of days and both had a couple of days off school.

I do feel like we (as a population) now have a lot of colds and virus' to "catch up" on, and I think I just got it all done early, and had the bonus that most were done in the warmth and sunshine, rather than the dark and cold. Keep up the fluids and get some sunshine when you can!

Feeling a lot better, but have switched from always asleep to cannot get to sleep, been staring into the darkness for two hours now, after falling asleep at midnight.

Some of these bugs you’ve all got sound really nasty. Our household has been sick (albeit to a lesser severity in most cases) on and off since our eldest started school in September. He’s been sick for more of the time than he’s been well. We had a 2nd child in October. The day he was born I started feeling really sick while we were in the delivery room. That turned out to be covid (2nd bout for me, nowhere near as bad as the first time). The baby was seriously ill at 4 weeks old from Bronchiolitis. Spent a week in the children’s hospital on high dependency unit, and took another 2 weeks to recover at home. Our eldest and my wife both had RSV - which was what caused the baby to get Bronchiolitis. Then there was about a week when everyone seemed ok. That didn last though and the eldest came down with a nasty cold and sickness bug, missing the last 2 weeks of term. I’ve had the same thing for the last 10 days, and now my wife has got it too. Just in time for Christmas of course.

It’s ducking annoying. On a more general health note, one thing I’ve noticed is that since getting covid the first time around (ironically fell ill the very day after getting my covid booster!) every cold or cough I get seems to go straight to my lungs. That never really happened before but now every cough or cold results in a really tight chest and leaves me unable to take a full breath without getting a painful tightening and wheezing across the top of my lungs. I’ve also noticed that every cold I’ve had has left me unable to run or walk without getting totally out of breath. Previously I’d continue running through most coughs and colds. Not any more!

Glad you're on the mend and hopefully the worst is behind, no one wants to be ill over Christmas.

We have been visited by the “super cold” or whatever the damn thing is called.

Wife started last Thursday - I joined her on Friday and we spent until Monday hardly managing to get out of bed - similar to the the time I had flu but not flu.

Both had hacking coughs when I felt that I needed to cough phlegm up but couldn’t and wife managed to pull a muscle with her coughs.

I was inhaling to try and loosen it which has helped to be fair.

Only today do we feel that we have turned the corner and feel able to venture out.

Hope all those suffering start to feel better, it is truly horrible.

Looks like I've joined the lurgy club this Xmas, day before I break up as well FFS laugh Lying on my armchair shivering under a blanket in a warm room, achy muscles, dry chest and throat with an occasional cough, and it took me half an hour to muster to the energy to get myself a glass of wine. Also Mrs TRD is out tonight so I've got to sort out my own tea, and earlier I thought it was a good idea to cook myself lamb cutlets instead of a ready meal. banghead
Well I was making a joke about it before but jeez it has absolutely floored me. Barely manage to eat or drink anything, can barely get off the chair, but if I do it'll be to sick, and I feel like I've been drugged with some strong sedatives. Grim.
And to top it off I threw up several times last night, anyone else had this is a symptom?

First day of my Xmas holidays as well cry
I'm feeling a bit better, but still sore throat, achy all over, dry cough, and generally a bit crap but able to eat, not being sick and out and about. Covid test came back negative.

Try inhaling steam - that helped my dry cough as it gradually loosened whatever was causing the problem

Still got a cough but it’s not dry and hacking now, nor painful.

Cheers, I did have an extra long shower this morning, and our bathroom doesn't have a window which turns it into an impromptu steam room, and it did help for a little while for sure.

My experience has been bad. I've tested twice for Covid and both negative. I started feeling ill on 3rd December, which happened to be my birthday, little did I realise how long this would take.

Day 1-10 was a terrible cough (unable to speak most of the time as it set me off) and a sore throat that was like swallowing glass. Really blocked sinuses and lethargy. Sleep was terrible, woke up feeling dreadful.
Day 11-20 saw the lethargy fall away, the cough just limited to whenever I try to speak and the occasional clearout, still terrible sinuses. Still waking up feeling rubbish but mostly dehydration, I was definitely having big night sweats.

Here we are on Day 21.Most of the main symptoms have gone, still congested sinus but nowhere near as bad as it was. Cough is still the worst bit, but it only comes up when I try and talk so work meetings are fun, and it is just a small cough now. But being unable to hold a conversation of any kind is quite annoying. Sore throat appears at night only but fluids seem to keep it at bay quite well.

Main issue is the underside of my nose is so sore, I've blown it 50 times a day for 3 weeks now.

Oh, and the inventory count:
1 bottle of Covonia
2 bottles of Benylin
1 packet of Tyrozets throat lozenges (very good)
1 packet of Strepsils
1 packet of Lemsip max strength sachets
2 packets of Sudafed max strength
An entire Vicks nasal spray
Unknown ibuprofen, probably 3 or 4 packs by now

And given I'm still getting through 3-4l of water every day, I'm pissing like a racehorse.

Just getting over this, not been fun at all. Felt crap when I woke up last Thursday and got worse throughout the day at work. Spent most of Fri-Mon in bed, aching limbs, sore throat, headache, severely congested sinuses, cough and what seemed like conjunctivitis for a few days.

Never known congestion like it, on my 5th box of tissues since Friday. Down to a bit of congestion and a cough so hopefully not much longer now. Did wonder if it was COVID as I felt so rough but test was negative.

Could this be a variant that’s not showing up on lF tests?

Yes. (If you mean covid), There's no one virus that causes colds and flu, coronaviruses are responsible for about a quarter of colds, the ones that get really nasty with the cough, sore throat and so on. The traditional rhinovirus just gives a normal snotty nose. Certainly what I've got has all the hallmarks of a coronavirus, I've also been vaccinated so whilst it'll obviously make things worse, the overall severity of symptoms didn't really fit at first.

When I got my covid jabs, a weird side effect was the gland under my right arm swelled to the size of a grapefruit. Every covid infection has given me the lump, and I got the same lump now.

Just be aware that covid tests will only show positive when there's enough virusey bits to detect, 20 negative and one positive, is a positive. No such thing as a false positive, just drop some of the solution direct on to the line on the test, if the line disappears then it's a dodgy one.

All my covid tests have failed to show positive, either it's a strain too far removed for the tests to detect or the viral load is too low. Possibly the latter due to vaccination.

Either way, still feel like st.

Might summon an exorcist.

I've never had a positive covid test yet, and have made no effort whatsoever to try and avoid it at any point over the last 3 years. I must have had it at some point, surely? Mrs TRD keeps telling me I'm lucky I haven't got covid, but I reminded her that flu is actually pretty dangerous as well, and certainly, 2 days ago I was close to feeling like dying (during the bloody ambulance strike too FFS!).

Get yourself some Lansinoh nipple cream (purple tube). Most supermarkets sell it in the baby section. It’s one of the most magic things known to humanity and even though my baby is nearly 7, we still keep a tube in for sore noses and scrapes. It’s a miracle healer.

Seems like I've been super lucky (hopefully not jinxing it!!) Had a very sore throat for a few days (felt similar to a swallowed fish bone but several notches higher; mucoused up to the eye-balls nose like a tap; the throat abated somewhat leaving me with raging sinuses; now I'm just a little listless and snotty, also not sleeping well... but on the plus side it's only been a week, reading about some on here yikes

Hope all recover quickly

Daughter has it. Wife is just coming down with it. Looks like I’m lined up to get it just in time for Sunday. Great.
Daughter now exiting it slowly. Wife has spent the last two days in bed. Blood oxygen sitting around 93% with RHR well over 90%. She’s been feverish, then not, then feverish again. Still coughing and congested. There’s bobbins all point trotting off to A&E today, tomorrow, Boxing Day etc so it’ll be bed rest. I have a slight suspicion that she may have contracted viral pneumonia along the way.

My sense of taste and smell checked out yesterday evening. I’m coughing a little bit and have a blocked nose/sneezes. The odd thing is how slow this is to take hold. Normally colds hit me pretty fast. This feels like being on the Titanic: I’m going to sink eventually but it’s taking a tediously long time to get there.

As a consequence of this latest outbreak, have discovered that there is no Nightnurse to be had in our part of the SE London forest. Is there a similar shortage elsewhere?

Experimenting with paracetamol/Benylin cocktail as a substitute;)
