Biting your nails
Discussion
Photo update: the nail beds are gradually getting better, but you can see where it has already recovered so I think it will just take time to get better. I have been filing them back to where they just reach the tip of the finger. I think actually having them a bit shorter would be better, since they are a bit annoying for doing certain tasks - they are quite "flexy".
After biting my nails on Sunday and it getting infected I decided to get some of that stuff to put on them.
Day four so far. And only once bitten them. That was yesterday to try and get the infection out (was the skin around not the nail).
Considering I've had an assessment at work, I've been stressed beyond believe and in the process of buying my first house, im over the moon I've not bitten them!

Was channel hoping a few days ago and came across some bloke talking about ingrown nails which I have had a few of.
He recommended a decent pair of nail clippers that are curved. £15 later I've got a pair from Amazon. They look like a pair of plyers but hoping they will stop the ingrown nails .

I’m doing quite well. They need a trim and although you can really see it in the picture, there’s a sign of the lunula on my thumbs for the first time I can remember.
For reference, I’m 33, I’ve bitten my nails my whole life and finally cracked it with willpower alone, I’m not getting any urge to bite anymore.
Someone at work (a woman, obviously) commented on how they looked the other day so they’d obviously noticed I’m a biter before but not mentioned it.
(No idea why I appear to be dead in that picture, it must be cold in the office.)

Started biting again last week.
Just one nibble can't hurt, that little bit needs taking care of..next thing you know you are sitting there with a guilty look on your face and no finger nails..Bobberoo99 said:
I'm a skin biter, I cut my nails short to stop me from biting them, and picking, it's the picking which starts it all. once I start picking at the dry skin on my fingers I can then feel that there's something there so I end up biting it!!!
That’s exactly what I do! My Dad used to put that awful tasting stuff on my nails when I was a kid to stop me biting them. It worked great but then I moved onto biting the skin around my nails instead. Now aged 33 I still do it and my fingers look awful!dxg said:
I've now got to the stage where, if I let my nails grow even the slightest amount, I can't type...
Same here. Incredibly it's actually getting a chore to keep them filed short! I don't want to use clippers, but the cheap emery boards are a bit crap, I'm thinking about getting one of the glass nail files which apparently never wear out.Shuvi McTupya said:

Hence my comment to people just starting to keep a file handy - if you find a rough bit just immediately file it smooth.Gareth79 said:
