I need to hit the ground running when i land in the states next week, and always find it a bit of a struggle to nod off when flying.

Having never taken sleeping tablets before, can anyone reccomend some?

Also, is this likely to help with jet lag? My thinking is, i'll stay awake for most of the night, sleep on the plane at 8am and then i should be adjusted to the time difference, or is that just a silly idea?

As someone has said, basically stay up a long time before the flight so you are so knackered by the time you board you'll be asleep.
unless its a business trip, the staying up late [or not going to sleep at all] is the most fun option smile have rolled into the hotel at 9am to collect cases, keeping the taxi waiting, on more than a few occasions.
I like this idea, i'll get some beers in and start the festivities early! Although the thought of eating airline food with a hangover isn't a nice one, perhaps i should grab some snacks before i board!

FWIW - redbull the night before to stay awake then sleep on the plane seems to have worked, i don't feel jet lagged at all!

Managed to get extra legroom on the plane so that aided in sleep, i got about 6 hours without the need for pills.
