I said this 2 days ago. CL qualification is all, that's where the serious revenues spring from. We can't expect them to be any different, although i certainly dont agree with it.They will not tolerate failure. Which could be both good and bad.
Football is dead. Long live football.
The thing is that the FA cup, or Carling cup is not going to bring in the serious money, the serious players, or any of those things that are important from a business perspective. That's why the top 4 is so important, especially for foreign markets. Football is dead. Long live football.

No chance of that happening, too many medium sized and big clubs involved in the EPL.
This top 4 nonsense has effectively turned the EPL into the regional qualifying round of the Champions League...thus diminishing the EPL whilst at the same time enhancing the ECL.
Time to re-balance this situation.
Surely at 19 points between 2nd and 3rd place... the EPL is already only a 2 team race? This top 4 nonsense has effectively turned the EPL into the regional qualifying round of the Champions League...thus diminishing the EPL whilst at the same time enhancing the ECL.

Yup. Was agreeing. The CL cannot be ignored as the benchmark for where teams should be. For a club like Liverpool, (and not to say a team has the god given right to be in a particular position), they need to be in that top 4 spot to do the things that they are expected to do. That expectation was not realized with Roy, or Dalglish, and both went. The Europa league just isn't a big money maker at all, so if Liverpool wish to attract the top names, top managers, and attract the top money, that is where they need to be. Any more seasons without, and it could be a spiral to mid table mediocrity, (which I know lots about, before any of you start). Breaking that hold that the richer clubs have on that income is not hard to either break, or gatecrash.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
