And how much did he have to spend?
Exactly. And even IF he had loadsa cash to splash how many players of any real 'substance' would want to go there?Sadly a team like Wigan will always be shopping in the bargain basement and so hovering around the relegation zone.
No disrespect Tom.
Whether he's shopping in the bargain basement or not, he should at least be able to pick out one or two players that will improve the squad, however the results/league position suggest he hasn't been able to do that.
The problem for a team like Wigans is that despite them spending whatever they have in the market, the teams above them will undoubtably spend more, and Wigans will end up losing any decent players they do have. Unlike Liverpool, Utd, City, et al, their best players will tend to stay put. Look at the amount spent by Wigan, and then compare to the rest of the league. Judging Martinez on what he has done with pitiful money, (Moyes has a positively massive transfer budget in comparison), and him battling relegation constantly is not a surprise.

Having said all of that, I don't think he's the man for Liverpool. I could see him at Everton when Moyes goes though. That would be an interesting comparison.
I don't know who I would want when Moyes leaves. To be honest, I wonder of Phil Neville would be in with a decent shout? He seems to be keen on the coach/managerial stuff. im said:

Hmm.
Just landed from a lovely week in Ireland and log on to ph to catch up with footy.. Can't believe those pictures
Looks like Martinez must be the no1 target.
We all had an idea that Martinez was one of the (possibly) three names that are supposed to be in the running for the managers job. Only bad thing about the pictures is that we are supposed to be doing things behind closed doors, not in the fking street....
From what I have read about Martinez he is in with a shout. (Given what the owners say they want) He is a well educated man, spent time here and in Spain. Goes in for the full philosophy thing with signage about the club, youth playing the same style as the first team etc.
Can he take us forward though?
