I am considering starting to go watch local non-league to get back to 'proper' football without the interference of bloody VAR ! Getting quite bored with the whole sterile nature of premier league stuff.
That was me about 7-8 years ago and I've never looked back. It's bloody great!p4cks said:
I'd never heard of that until you mentioned it, so I downloaded it. It requires a subscription so until I learn more about it and read some reviews I'll hold off signing up for the paid stuff.
Yeah that's a fair shout, I didnt think of giving a it a review as such else i'd have mentioned it. Basically I use it to track where i've been, completed leagues, stats, what's on nearby. It's a German app but there's a Brit contingent who keep British non league upto date (all the way down to step 6 non league, although you can manually input visits to any other game you goto after you've been there.) I dont know how much you get from non-subscription I'm afraid.I did Sholing vs Gosport Borough in the end in Southern League Challenge Cup (Preliminary Round) Both well funded teams for their level (Gosport the league above) but the Gosport Keeper had a 'mare and Sholing scored 3 quick first half goals. Gosport had Matt Patterson playing who i'd not seen since he got sent off for Southampton vs Manchester United many years ago, he played rubbish then too.

What a strange, strange game of football that was.
Firstly, the officiating was the worst I've ever seen, worse even than Sunday league standard but that's been overshadowed by the actions of one or two individuals.
I'd seen photos and videos of racist behaviour and gestures elsewhere recently and I always thought it wouldn't be something that I'd ever have to witness first hand so I was actually in a state of shock to witness a fan making monkey gestures at one of the players 10 meters in front of me. This was a fully grown man, probably someone's father or grandfather, behaving like this. I didn't know what to do or say when I was witnessing the aftermath and reaction of the players. One of the home players outed him and shouted at him to get out of the stadium, which thankfully he did.

Gosport have a fair amount of our (Havant & Waterlooville) Ryman & National League South Championship winning side - Lee Molyneaux, Ryan Woodford, Rory Williams, George Barker, Josh Huggins, Mike Carter, Theo Lewis and Matt Patterson. Some really good players, arguably too good for that level. We're heading to Wealdstone on Saturday to see if we can stop their impressive start to the season!
I've also got one eye on the FA Cup third qualifying round draw imminently - An away game at a ground I've not visited would be good.

They didnt look like they'd gelled to be honest, i'm a little annoyed I didnt see H+W play last season, especially with Andreas Robinson (now at Weymouth) in the middle of the park, he's certainly too good for Weymouths level, he should be playing league football. We're heading to Wealdstone on Saturday to see if we can stop their impressive start to the season!

Andreas was excellent for us last season. My player of the year. Strangely, the previous season in the National South, he couldn't get in the team!?Hows Ryan Seager getting on ?
Seager hasn't had a lot of game time yet, but i'm not sure he was match fit when he arrived. From what I've seen, he could be a useful player though.

I went to school with Ryan's dad, same class in a lot of subjects. First thing he needs is a run of three or four games, then once one goal goes in, others will follow. Southampton gave him a contract not so long back, he's easily good enough for that level. He's just been horrifically managed by a dictatorial clot. Not surprised he's not match fit right now.
I popped down to Alton vs Hythe & Dibden in Wessex Div 1 last night, any excuse to hack up the A31 in the dark!
ex Saint Jo Tessem was playing at the spritely age of 47 for Hythe, who went 1-0 down through a pen in the first half and then equalised with a pen in the 2nd half. Inbetween was a lot of chances, couple of chances against the woodwork and bit of rain, but it's a 3g surface so didnt do much! Decent ground with a dry covered stand and a decent cafe, £5 to get in too!

Seager was woefully underused last season by the utter joke of a manager that we (Yeovil) employed. Didn't know a good thing when he had one, and preferred to concentrate on other st rather than what he was paid to do, keep us in the Football League. Thankfully, we seem to have a better man-manager now that realises if Ryan is going to improve, he might need a couple of months out on loan to build his fitness and confidence up again.

Ryan scored his first goal for us on Saturday, coming on as a sub in our 3 - 0 win over Hadley in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round. I went to school with Ryan's dad, same class in a lot of subjects. Draw for the 4th Q.Round in the next 10 mins or so. Personally, I'd love Notts County away or Chichester.

Hignett sacked at Hartlepool. I didn't see that coming and I don't many of the fans wanted him out either so looks to be entirely the Chief Exec's decision.
It used to be that managers got sacked because they lost to Yeovil; the ignominy was too much for the clubs and they'd release the manager.Last weekend, you beat us (albeit 2-1 with a 90+2 goal) but I am surprised he's gone.

You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. The squad is particularly poor, but thankfully an improvement on last year's dross. Last weekend, you beat us (albeit 2-1 with a 90+2 goal) but I am surprised he's gone.
What's apparent at this level is the inconsistency from the players and subsequently the performance and the results. The league is so open as a result, and difficult to predict.
I'm not from Hartlepool and I before I started going I had absolutely no affiliation with them whatsoever but I still enjoy going, not necessarily for the football but for the whole experience. The fellas I stand (standing - another reason I go) with are great and a good laugh which certainly helps. For example when the game is boring, they'll have a bet about which advertising board the ball will hit next with the winner taking all... it's funny to listen to them ooh and arrr when the ball innocently goes out for a throw in

Absolutely buzzing, Kingstonian FC have just beat Dartford from the division above 3-2 to go into the FA cup first round proper.
To make it even better, our Youth Team have just done it as well!!!
Brilliant! I saw Dartford Beat Blackfield and Langley in the round before. The travelling fans were a fun bunch but the footy wasnt, glad you beat them. good luck in 1st round proper!.To make it even better, our Youth Team have just done it as well!!!
Looks like Lee Bradbury's left Eastbourne Borough.. seems like some planned investment didn't materialise and they've over budgeted a tad!
