I found that oem service parts were essential. Brake disks and pads, exhaust fitting kit (the bit with the bolts and deformable wire wool gasketty washer thing), etc.

Thanks for all the advice.

Bought the car - 10% off the screen price, RAC warranty (very limited but covers large items), years MOT and service lobbed in.

Car immaculate, no rust anywhere, exhaust looks fine, drives well etc. Full Subaru history. All for £3,150. Can't be bad!
