Wouldn't put it past them to end up fitting the cars with speakers to play 'real' racing engine sounds as part of another attempt to fix broken F1 by artificial means.
much like Audi have with the Q5 dismal...ffs, how sad is it that we a even discussing this?
OK, a bit of perspective. All these engine noises put out there of the next year's V6 Turbos, sound compressed to buggery and I'm highly skeptical that this is how it will sound in real life. Certainly, it gives us an idea of the overall tone of the engine but in no way does it give us an idea of the loudness (which plays a huge part in how the human ear perceives sound!).
I'm fairly sure that it will sound similar to the MP4/4 clip somebody posted above. It may not have the high pitched squeal/scream of the current V8s or the V10s due to the lower rev limits, but who cares if it could sound like the V6 Turbos of yore, right?
