I was amused to see that whilst many Pirelli critics cite that a return to Bridgestone is the answer...

Indeed - and then the championship leader gets himself disqualified by staying out a lap longer than allowed in the shortened race

The Bridgestones were able to complete more than a third of the original scheduled race distance at a good pace.

Oh, for it to be like that in F1.......

Although, to be fair, Dunlop had the same issues with the Moto2 bikes, so both tyre manufacturers had a big problem.

It's a very similar situation to what happened at Indy, the track surface has changed significantly since last year, with a complete resurface using a higher grip tarmac, add to that unseasonably high temperatures and the hardest corner on the tyres of the year, and you can see how this happened.

So it was a one off issue, not something seen every single race, as is the case with current F1.

At least they worked out how to still put on a show, rather than sticking two fingers up at the spectators.

exactly

the indy race could have proceeded if spankie had not vetoed the placement of a chicane on the banked section to eliminate the cause of the tyre failures.

if a cct is re-surfaced, then realistically, without testing, your always going to have this as a risk.

Today's comment from CH tells the story.

Two adjacent compounds, Soft and Medium; one good for maybe 10 miles, the other for maybe 150 miles.

So half the top 10 chose not to use the Option tyre for Q3, the Pirellis really are a joke this year.

Of course these are actually last years tyres after the Silverstone debacle handed the championship to Red Bull half way through the season.
