To expensive! Plus, carwow have already tested the latest m240i and they got 3.8 to 60 with only 374bhp. That's the car I'd have, that's all the 2 series you'll ever need..

I think it sounds fabulous and as with the M3/4 looks will likely soften as they become more common. But it does all seem a bit more grown up, yes a better car but a new model should be, but is it too grown up?

One aspect that shouldn't be ignored. The M2 used to be about £50k ish, the new one starts at £64 it seems which is a fair bit more, add some options and this could easily be a £70k car where the old one could be about mid 50s.

Throw in the much higher interest rates and I find myself being in the position of not been able without compromise to buy the same model of car I once bought new relatively easily. At that time these were the sort of figures associated with the M4, which I never looked at as it was too much to justify and which also seemed far too serious for me.

I think this is a car I shall greatly respect, but maybe not greatly desire.

The New M240 is a very good car, I've done 10,000 miles in mine but it's not an M2 even compared to the OG which i still own and drive back to back regularly,I have ordered the New M2 and gone for Manual because it really is going to be the last proper "M" car with a stick and in comparison looks cheap along side the M4..driving

Have to say, I quite like this. And in 2023, I don’t think that’s a bad price at all to be honest.

Not a car I’d personally buy, but I think they’ve done quite well here.

I’m sorry but it looks like the Lego version of the car.
x2

It also has the weight of an old M5. Very appealing.
No wonder Porsche struggles to meet demand in some models.

Wonder how many of those complaining would actually be potential customers? Not many, I’m guessing smile
As a serial M car owner I am and i think it looks ridiculous too. I'll admit a dark colour will help massively and I will certainly drive one and it will be brilliant but the previous M2 was and is such a great design, something that can never be said about this unless you have a serious eyesight issues.

I just read this is in fact a 1725kg car? If that's the case, it's too heavy by far.

Aside from the Tupperware lunch boxes on each corner I don’t mind the looks. Don’t love the looks but I don’t hate it.
I do like the Hyundai blue and that’s probably the colour I would go for. A lighter interior would be nice but probably only available in coal hole black.
I like how BMW have opted for softer setting at the rear which will help get the power down on bumpy UK roads (the previous M4 really struggled here) and stiffer up front will liven up the steering.
All in, I think it’s a great package and likely to be a future classic.

1.7 tonnes, utterly shambolic for a ‘small’ 2 door coupe with sporting pretensions. All that nonsense of how well they have controlled the mass, just think how really good it could be if BMW controlled the mass during design and construction….

It sounds like it's a good steer, but I just couldn't get past the looks. I know a lot of people don't care but, for me, I want my car to look good as well as be a great drive. This just isn't that at all. I like the roof line and the arches, but the front and rear are just a mess. The front looks so out of proportion with the rest of the car. The ride height looks weird in the pictures too, and the wheels look like they are from a different car. The front of the M240i is so much better resolved (even if the rear is still ugly).

I hate to say it, but this is a much worse looking car than the M3/M4.

And how do you think they could do that while still incorporating all of the safety systems that are mandated by law, and the luxuries that are mandated by customers?

The colour of this one doesn't do anything for me, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in the metal though. I'd imagine it to be good to drive too, yes it is on the heavy side, but then most cars are nowadays I reckon.

In a way I'm glad as I'm not at all tempted to sell my OG M2 and order one of these.
Good call. Can't wait for the proper reviews to start coming out, that article was poor IMO and given the journalist reckons an 'OG' BMW M2 is 'spiky' then they're hardly the best person to provide an opinion on such a product rofl

Sadly I am also in the same boat as the majority in not liking the looks.

Car does sound great to drive, but so was the FK8 Honda Civic at the time (Still is). But just like that car, I could not bring myself to buy one based on the looks. This M2 will also be the same, even more so as it now costs £65k to be seen in it. What a shame!

There is no need to apologise. The car looks grotesque. Another design for the BMW UGLY wall poster

Oooh look, some old men on the internet don't like the design and think it should be a carbon copy of an E46. Yawn.

Take my money.

Also I've driven US89 over into Prescott and it's lovely. Northern Arizona has some great roads and it's very different from the stereotype images of the south of the state. The road up the valley past Sedona and on to Flagstaff is bonkers, although there's far too much traffic to have fun.

Proper unlucky to get the grey sky, that must happen about 5 times a year...

it's nothing to do with any of that. it's BMW's ste one size fits all platform they have to work with.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_CLAR_platform

this junk has to accommodate the X7, they must've worked a miracle to get the Z4/Supra down to only 1500kg which was probably by virtue of having no back seats

It could be the best drivers car ever and I still wouldn't buy one with those looks.
