RE: New Cupra Tavascan officially unveiled

When you look at the design, it's actually quite smart. Well-proportioned and blends relatively well, as a shape goes.

For me, the problem is, it's a pretty big car that's designed to look sporty, and given what the marketing bumph says, it'll be competing in a pretty crowded market segment. Given that when I searched "Cupra Tavascan" in Google, one of the first things that popped up was "is Cupra a Chinese brand?" - perhaps they need to market themselves before throwing car designs at us. I'm sure some of the older hands here will agree that this was the downfall of some manufacturers/brands over the years.

Also, ergonomically it seems a little odd. It's meant to be an SUV / practical car, yet the rear door handles look like they open upwards, or at least horizontally, yet they're at a height where kids can't let themselves into the car. You spend £50k on a posh Cupra and you have to get out to open the door for your kids? Something isn't right there.

Out of interest I shared this with a colleague, as she's been thinking of going electric. Her take was "it looks huge, and what's that [dashboard] meant to be, some deer antlers or my thong?"

Can't unsee that.

They had to work around the limitations imposed by the platform. Accommodating all the batteries in a layer on car bottom it will push the car interior up and make the car look like a blob. So Seat did some design tricks to try hiding that blobby shape by using all those edges, ornaments. Still did not solve the blob issue but mitigated it a bit.
Props to them for the interior, for being original and imaginative. Unlike regular electrics that have that poverty dash: lousy beam with a steering and tablet stuck into it.

"Sporty" SUVs are gluttons fantasy: big car to look at plebs from the above, fast, performant, expensive, all comfort, full of all possible/impossible optionals, status symbol to show off. Unfortunately the fast, performant is just in their immagination.

"On UK roads I drive everywhere at 10/10ths on the very ragged edge of grip all year round, and therefore these sporty SUVs are completely pointless."

Meanwhile, in the real world, this car will suit most people most of the time.

I think you are missing the point. It's Cupra that are selling the thing as a sports car when anyone who knows anything about driving a car briskly, knows this isn't that. The point of many of the comments is that

It's all marketing fluff designed for the show off and wannabe that had to trade in their golf R for something that will fit a pram and 3 kids.

No, nobody drives at 10 10ths all the time, but I see the point of many of the comments with regard to this being sold as something sporty when all it actually is, is a Zafira alternative for those that want to look cool but don't really care about anything to do with the driving experience.

I'm sure it will sell well, but it's not my cup of tea...

Looks like a Lamborghini Urus.

The dash looks like it’s modelled on a Uterus which maybe symbolic.I’ll stick with my 4 Drive ST 300 .
