That’s nuts for a 2 door coupe that’s supposed to be relatively small.
It's smaller than a contemporary M5 or M4, isn't it?Cars are getting bigger, the previous M2 was the size and weight of a E46 M3. So they are also getting heavier, that stands to reason.
Comparing the weight of a current car to the weight of a car 2 series bigger and 2 or 3 generations older is always going to return similar weight and size, as is precisely the case comparing the G87 M2 to a E39 M5 which was launched...24 years ago.
Sadly BMW do not have a RWD chassis for a smaller/lighter car in absolute terms as they have switched the 1 series to FWD. That is the main issue.

It doesn’t seem to have any merit over an M3 or M4 apart from
Lower cost.
Is that not true of every halo model with a halo version of the model above?Lower cost.
All the cars in the range should have difference purpose or USP (which BMW is forgetting).
Until now the M2 and 1M have been the fun ones and best to drive for the real enthusiasts.
M4 was brilliant with the deals and quicker in a straight line putting out big hp.
M5 was the ultimate family car etc.
Different use cases.

Yes that's right Granfondo, carry on projecting. If you’re going to make new accounts and pretend you’re a new member at least make it believable.

Not at all Granfondo. It is relatively small in comparison to a M4, isn't it?

Of course it's a well known trend. Extrapolating to 2050 the BMW M0 will weigh 3.5 tonnes have 1800bhp and be the same size as an X7.Cars are getting bigger, the previous M2 was the size and weight of a E46 M3. So they are also getting heavier, that stands to reason.

(To be fair it's far from just BMW. Park a 964 next to a 992 and it looks like a toy)

1.7 tonnes, utterly shambolic for a ‘small’ 2 door coupe with sporting pretensions.
Who said it had to be small? It's bigger than E46 M3 and adds 20 years of safety, equipment, torsional rigidity, emission compliance etc so in fact I am surprised they've contained the weight so well. there's been 20+ years advancement in materials and technology since the E46 M3, this should be lighter given the advancements, NOT heavier. Simply put, car manufacturers need to up their game in weight-saving and design. It's not good enough.
The more weight a performance car has, the more effort it takes to accelerate and slow down. Physics don't lie. The usual suspects on here dropping the same old rubbish for it being a bloater. This is 2023. Let's have it right, no more daft excuses.

As some have said earlier in this thread, very exaggerated opinions. I suppose that’s what keeps threads alive. Anyway I have been looking for a car to buy that fulfils a number of pre-requisites. Golf clubs hidden from view, (yes I admit it I play golf), occasional rear seats, don’t charge me the earth for things that should be standard, (I’m looking at you Porsche), and good fun to drive and learn over many months. So after driving a few rivals including a 992 T, I have ordered a Black one with every extra. Imho I think this is well priced. No I haven’t driven it and I too felt the last model was spiky but I have found that this fits my niche perfectly, and by all accounts I’m joining a number of others clamouring for this car. Most probably people who read this forum but don’t often comment.
Anyhoo, I sold my Cayman S, (superb, but having had 911s I always hankered after big brother again, call me shallow if you like ), had an RS3 (terrible to drive compared to an S3 which also wasn’t that good albeit very fast across country, a bit like a really good Dyson). I then purchased a Puma ST, (cracking car and recaptures the PH ethos I believe, simply makes me smile when pressing on). However it’s just slightly short on power, status and pub bragging rights, told you I was shallow, I have succumbed and thoroughly enjoyed ordering my M2 with everything and still have a £50k saving over a lower specified 992 T. Sure you will say it’s in a different league…is it? Is it really? It has less power, is very noisy and doesn’t fit my family/lifestyle situation. Only the Macan GTS does within the Porsche range and I’ll take the M2 over that. Roll on next year. Abuse welcome.

I always find this sentiment odd. You still pay for those things when they're "standard". I might not want it. If you want it you pay for it.
To be fair you are probably correct, an old man comment from me back when a stereo was extra. However I do think folding door mirrors on a 992 should be standard fit, she’s a wide thing.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
