I'd take the Alfa easily and keep it forever. However most of these cars can be had for low 30's going for a slightly older model, better value there than at 50k i think.

Is 'Stage 2 M140' the new 'mapped 335d'?

Some really weird people on here. Getting mad that a sorted 140i would be just as quick if not faster that most of the list. Then bash said poster comparing it to the new “mapped 335d is the quickest car ever”.

This is titled “fastest for £50k”, not fastest track car, not best handling car, not fastest best spec’ed car.

I assume it’s if you line up on a 2 mile runway, what gets to the end fastest.

Anyway. For outright speed I’d be buying a gen 1 hayabusa building the engine and strapping a large turbo to it. Forget the list, you would be embarrassing a lot of hyper cars. All for £20k or less.

Yep, 'Super-fast for £50k'

Not 'fastest in a straight-line to the end of a 2 mile runway'

'Fastest' has many metrics of measurement. All of the cars are fast, with different strong/weak points depending what task they have to be fast at.

It's a good mix of cars.

Yep, at straight liners I managed 173 in my super slow 1 series and a turbo busa did 273!

Some on here have obviously spent a good wedge on a premium ‘GT’ product and just can’t fathom that another car similar weight but with near 100bhp and 250ftlbs more power and well sorted chassis with Bilsteins, LSD etc could possible be quicker because it’s a small hatch and get all irate about it. Even a stock M140 is only a couple tenths to 60 down on a GT4, they’re just not that ‘fast’.
I love it when something cheap/usualy slow/ unexpected is an absolute rocket round a circuit it’s the best part about going to track days etc and usually owned by interesting people who don’t go on about how ‘steering feel’ equates to a fast car.

Quite a dated looking car, which is strange when the 355 (same era) still looks so good.
Small wheels and large overhangs and horrible rear lights.

One lad I played 5 a side with had one and the bonnet (for whatever reason) needed replacing. 12k!

I think people buy them, realise you need to sell a flat in Chelsea to finance the running costs and quickly get bored.

If it's just about usable speed for under 50k, then surely a Tesla 3 Performance would qualify...

These lists are nearly always for standard cars though. You can mod a Fiesta ST to be quick and yet a lot of 140 owners sneer at them.

There was a girl in a very quick Fiesta ST time attack car last time I was Donington, I don’t know what category as it wasn’t fully stripped race car but mighty quick through the bends.
The GR Yaris is the most sneered at car by the ‘premium’ boys and usually smokes everyone laugh

I distinctly recall good 996 Turbos at £25k a few years ago (admittedly the equivalent of £30k+ I guess today). That seemed great value then, and even better now. Another missed opportunity..
Early £50's is where similar mileage 997 turbos seem to start, and that's a much nicer looking car IMO.

Yeah, I'd be getting a 997 Turbo for £50k.

However, since you can pick up a 996 Turbo for £30k, that's what I'd choose. Oh, I did. biggrin

It's no Ferrari or Lambo but I still get that feeling of it being an event every time I get in (and that's after 2.5 years of ownership - maybe it's because it's not my daily driver). I wish I was bored of it because I have a hankering for something else but I can't quite seem to let it go just yet.

Early ones are quite a bit less than £50k too. I'm interested to see the new one in the metal and in comparisons with rivals. But yes, they are a quick car.

lol who’s irate?! The comments were more:

- Fast has many metrics
- nowhere does it state 2 mile runway
- a 140i isn’t the same car in feel as a M3 regardless of mods
- these cars are out of the box fast and drivers cars
- if we’re talking ‘modded and fast for 50k’ not sure 140 would get a look in
