I’ve just been trying to get mine down.

£1250 renewal, last year £750 with Churchill

Managed to get a quote for £775 from Aviva so it looks like I’ll be going with that one.

No points, accidents or anything in the last year but changed job so maybe that’s not helped. Think I’ve been lucky when I read about other peoples increases.

Excess is a bit lower on this policy so I suppose it’s not too bad!

Wheels, Carbon splitter, X-Pipe, K&N filters, Carbon Dash. Nothing extreme
That's too many and possibly too specific
Plenty of insurers will cover non standard exhaust and non standard air filter.
The rest sound like options which a lot of people wouldn't declare, or possibly even know about. Since you have already quoted with them declared you have lost the ability to say I had no idea they weren't original.

It’s gone up £5, that’s below inflation.
Renewals are always inflated to catch the lazy with auto renewal. It’s for your own good, honest.

I'm 64. Just put a 2009 Fiat Panda through at £167 with zero NCB as it's an extra car.

Just dialed in a soon to be mine 2019 MX5 RF 2.0 and it's £195 with my max NCB.

Both limited to 4000 miles. Not complaining.

In which case, can you explain why, from about 2006 to 2018, insurance prices in the UK just kept falling? The average policy price for 2018 was way lower than 2006.

Also, how come, even now, in this period of spiralling insurance costs, some people (not many, I accept) are getting renewals in lower than last year?
We're not in 2018 and that's a 12 year gap. Not really comparing apples with apples.. People get older and accumulate NCB that lowers price...but there has a massive hike in prices in the last couple of years. This is the first year where all my insurance renewals have been more expensive than last years...

Massive hike for reasons that are constantly explained on here and lots of other places.
Some people end up paying less than last year , some the same and some ( I would suggest the vast majority ) more.
Some seem to pay a lot and some still very little relatively speaking.
Insurance is not a con though.

Why do insurance companies have this NCD of it’s all a big scam? Couldn’t they just get rid of it and make even more profit?

We're talking about the price of the average insurance policy. Between 2006-2018, you may have got older, and I got older, but a lot of people turned 17 and a lot of older drivers stopped driving or died. The average driver age and ncb was no different in 2018 than it was in 2006.

So if, as claimed, every year they just invite at a premium way above last year as it's a con, how come, for those 12 years, that didn't happen. Insurance got cheaper and cheaper.

Insurance is a con. They just randomly pick an arbitrary number which is much higher than the last renewal.

What has Pablo16v done to be exempt from this con?

Male, 37y/o, 14 years NBC (mirrored) with 5 years NCB on this actual policy.

MX5 Turbo (3k miles, £250 excess)
Previous: £378
Renewal: £399

Purchased: £317 (2k miles, £500 excess)

Still seems a lot but it's heavily modified so the pool of potential insurers is quite a bit smaller.

Just been on the phone to sort out insurance on my daily and my weekend drive, renewal for my Saleen came in with an increase of £37 on last year (A Flux) added the SP30 I have just acquired and it made no difference to the price so renewed at £335, got them to quote on my daily Astravan and although they were only £6 more expensive than the cheapest Meerkat quote I went with them, their excess is £250 cheaper and windscreen excess is £15 cheaper

My 18 yo sons renewal after one year driving is £966 - up £6 from last year.
No amount of internet searching can get it anywhere near that price (with Marmalade), so whilst it’s gone up, it’s more than acceptable.

Ran a quote on an F32 BMW 440i in March 2023. £508. Didn't buy the car but kep running quotes to keep abreast of the market. Saw a high of £608 later in the year. Quotes currently coming in at £545. I must be in a sweet spot where I live as I've run quotes on a few other addresses nearby (houses I'm looking at to potentially buy) and they range from £900 to well over £1,000!

I managed to get it down to 750 by dropping the value of my car by £50 so I’m pretty happy now smile

Been with LV= for years, daily’s, home and (classic policies when they had them ). Just got the renewal for my Audi A3 S line & my wife’s trusty old Peugeot. Up 45% !! Last year £451 now £652, did a few online comparison site quotes, every one was over £1000 ?? So it looks as if we will continue with LV=.
Just an update, We are staying with LV=. Phoned them to haggle, spoke to a very nice guy straight away.
He got the policy down to £617, nice one.
As I said, all the others were quoting well over £1000.

Kia Stinger, basic policy without legal cover etc last year 517 with Hastings through shopping around, silly renewal quote of 1161 offered from them, so I managed to get Tesco through Meerkats for 377 for like for like cover. Just shows how daft you’d be to accept renewal prices in most cases.
Going direct to Tesco was 450-odd.
Every little helps smile
