Just renews my insurance for the Megane Sport and the Honda Accord.. 437 fully comp for both the wife and I.. So I cannot moan at that(I have 17 years no claims and the wife 12). Even though answering 'yes' I had attended a speeding awareness course pushed it up by £80 !!!.

Anyways, I normal take the track car (325 bmw) on my trailer to the track, but it is stored a 1 hour round trip+ to get it.. As I live 10 mins from castle combe and 20 from most MSE trackdays I thought I could just insure it and get the trailer if I crash it etc....

All I want is 3rd party only max 500 miles a year, it has been stripped, lowered, brakes etc all done and the cheapest I can find is £300 for the year!!.. Does anyone know somewhere cheaper, or is that what I am kind of looking at.

Thanks

I do a similar thing with an MX-5. Competition car insurance is worth a look, but Adrian Flux managed to beat their quote with a limited milage policy for modified cars. 3000 miles a year, all parts declared for £232 3rd Party F&T. Not too bad all in all.

Cheers, I only need to do about 500(if that even a year), and they still wanted £300.

You would surely do more than 500 per year, on Friday rocking up just before lunch and leaving before 5pm, I'd reset the trip at the petrol station closest the track ~1.5 miles out, on getting home ~8miles away it was showing 150 miles so at least 140miles just on track at Abingdon with MSE in an afternoon.

I toyed with the idea of a trailer but its more expense so I just have regular insurance but do pay quite a bit ~£550 for an MR2 roadster.

Nah.. I live 10 miles from Castle Combe, and 3 or 4 MSE events are in 15 miles. (near you I guess)
I would use the trailer for further a field. I do not need any insurance on the track.. just driving too and from home.

Add in TAX and then the yearly MOT and you are half way towards a decent trailer

I already have a trailer, but its 1 hour round trip to get it.. Castle Combe is 10 mins away..
And not yet sorted.. other things have popped up.. I have just ordered new track tyres though, then MOT .

I will update, and I may check fully comp.

But the OP doesn't need insurance for the 140 miles on track, only the 10 mile round trip to the track. Does beg the question though how you prove you have only 500 'insured' miles.

When the track car I run was insured for road but on a limited mileage policy I used to have to tell my broker in advance when I was doing a track day and as soon as possible after what the mileage was at start and end of the track day - no big deal and it stopped all the issues around exceeding my mileage limit due to track activity and being asked to pay an increased premium

Definitely check fully comp. My TPF&T renewal came in at only £50 less than a fully comp policy and i now get windscreen cover, legal cover, etc.

Apparently round us (Bradford) the insurance cost tpf&t for cheap cars has skyrocketted due to a lot being used for cash for crash. The broker suggested a higher valuation on the car was fairer given the mods done (I'd down played it because who wants a track slag, although would cost a fair bit to replace), and going fully comp.

He had an interesting conversation with one insurer regarding notified but non-covered modifications (i.e. they put back to standard) - would they replace my fully stripped out interior if the car was involved in an accident? I don't think they realised he was taking the piss.

I want to know when insurers will over a discount for having a dash cam fitted.
