Wife has an Ariya incoming and it looks to be about £50/year more than her outgoing Qashqai, so pretty reasonable given the increase in value (list price anyway!) and performance.

Our insurance has gone up considerably compared to last year though. About £5-600 combined is now a grand.

Looking at moving from ICE to EV.

Trying to narrow down my choices, but based on 8k miles per annum for myself and my wife, single car household.

I've had the following quotes from Money supermarket.

EV6
GTLine S AWD = 799.58
GTLine S RWD = 642.76
GT = 1,690.11

IPACE
HSE 400 = 1,426.95

BMW i4
m50 = 517.57
Msport 40 = 501.98

HYUNDAI IONIQ 5
ULTIMATE RWD = 527.98

I thought it was more related to acceleration or value, but the m50 is soo much cheaper to insure than the EV6 GT, even a RWD Ioniq 5 is more expensive. for context my current car is 520d = 594.40 and a comparable ICE is
BMW M440i = 678.59 which is more than the m50, so anecdotally there isn't a great deal of difference with EV cars compared to ICE with some weird outliers but it might be worth checking around on those.

There are so many factors used to determine car insurance pricing, including cost and time for repairs.

£600 for an Ariya. Admiral was the cheapest.

Paid £450ish for my Insignia ('14 plate) this year.

Had a look at a couple of EV's for comparison; '21 plated Kona EV was £550 and a Tesla M3LR ('20 plate) was circa £800.

That's for 20,000 miles, so a rise but not tremendous (and would be quickly regained by the fuel savings in my circumstance). Not to mention the Insignia is currently dismantling itself with every commute it seems.

Previously my Wife was paying £1100 on a 330D, higher because of two claims in 2022 (one fault, one non fault)

Born came in at £750 which was fairly good considering.

I finally went with a i4 40.

My existing insurer (Hastings) won't insure the car for the remainder of the policy, so had to cancel.

Policy last year was 594.40 for 520d but the i4, came in at 507 for the cheapest but I went for one that was a bit more inclusive of a few things like windscreen cover so ended up paying 540.

Not bad at all

My GTS Taycan in our fleet policy added about £1300 per annum with a £2300 excess.

Fully comp, SE UK, garaged, myself and wife to drive, I'm 61, no points etc.

i3 REX has just gone from £396 to £497 with Esure. Suffice to say I'm currently looking elsewhere.

1st Central Insurance have come back at £383 via Compare the Market. I've never heard of them but they appear to have good reviews. Has anyone got real life experience with them??

Admiral quoted me £645! I don't think I'll be going with them.

Just swapped my wife's insurance from a 69 plate Qashqai to a 24 plate Ariya. £80 up to the end of the policy (over 10 months left as only just renewed), £20 of which was an admin fee.

I thought that was fine.

The excessive EV insurance costs seem to be mostly on the "non legacy" manufacturers like GWM, BYD, and Tesla. They just don't have the parts/repair network.

Admiral has been the cheapest for me.
If that may help sweeten the deal, they're also doing 6 months subs for free with BP Pulse

I heard similar last week about BYD models, who have scarce parts supply in the UK, so some accident repairs are impossible to complete, leading to more write-offs, leading to substantial premium increases.

My wife's i3S was a couple of quid more than last year, my iPace was cheaper than the Audi A8 it replaced. With the zero road tax (calm down, pedants, I know it's not called that...) I'm quid's-in.

An update on my updates.

I had an online chat with Esure earlier highlighting I'd had a very competitive quote with 1st Central. I said was there anything they could do before I changed Insurers. The first thing Esure said was that don't do match pricing, the same thing was said on my Renewal Notice. The 'advisor' said they would see what they could do. I'd already decided that if they came back at @£400 then I'd renew to save all the faffing.

They came back with £355

Go figure

As my insurance expires in 4 weeks, I spent a painful couple of hours online this afternoon searching for the best deal on my Soul. Last year was £202, but no such luck today. I had to contend with a massive hike - a 35% increase to £270!
