I’m a fan of the Megane e tech as it’s a very compelling package so it was the front runner. However the Smart drove really well. The interior is absolutely lovely and has plenty of space for rear seat passengers. It all has a more quality feel. It has all the Google stuff etc integrated too. I had highlighted my concerns about intrusive tech and the salesman made a big thing of an extensive test drive where we really challenged the system. The systems are nowhere near an intrusive as the MG4 with just gentle vibration of the steering wheel. Here’s the kicker though. You can set your preferred settings into your profile along with the seats etc and the car remembers it every time.

The main takeaway though was the fact Mercedes still own 50% of Smart so have a vested interest in your satisfaction and the customer experience. OTA updates are also slick. When we got into the car the main screen said there was an update, the guy pressed accept and it carried it out in about 3 seconds. The software and voice recognition response was also spot on.

Will be ordering Monday for delivery in 3/4 weeks or sooner. Can’t wait.
Sounds like we should definitely take a look
Like others have said, my local MB dealers are not listed as Smart dealers so I will have to travel a bit

Checked my mates MG4 yesterday, he's on software verison R30.

What does he need to say to his local MG dealer to get them to do an update to whatever is the latest? As I understand it they're not keen to do software updates unless it's absolutely necessary, which seems a bit poor to me?

If people haven't these issues should be reported to DVSA, not to try and get a resolution but as evidence there are problems with these systems.

Only other option is to stop buying cars with these systems, when manufacturers see sales plummet they will have to do something.
They must already be aware. The software is very similar across the board.

I think there must be someone sort of more good than harm argument.

Until a line of school children are mown down because the car got spooked by a white line nothing will change.

I sometimes wonder if a 90 year old lady was driving and it jerked the wheel like it does she might not have the strength to overcome it like a fit and healthy person can.
And exactly why these incidents/defects should be reported, if no one says anything how will anything change?
My point was that I'm sure they are reported but I bet there's data that shows how many accidents have been prevented.

Benefit > harm (at the moment). And they'll be banking on the systems only getting better.

Mine is a June 2023 Trophy and it’s on R30. I believe they didn’t want to update mine in case it bricked it. All the issues with my software are well known and reported globally since Jan 2023. When users and journalists all over the world are reporting it and MG constantly deny it’s a problem then I believe it shows the contempt they have for customers.

Mine has some infuriating foibles. The first car where you need to do pre flight checks.

The lockout for the rear windows resets every trip. The first I find out is my 3 year old putting the windows down using his toes, which he does every journey.

One pedal driving needs selecting every time so after a week I've already given up doing that.

There's load of niggles like that.
After owning an EV now for 7 years and coming from a Leon Cupra 290.

IMO the X Power needs.
1. Interior lighting is poor, Needs a rear light, ambient lighting, Sill Plate lights and footwell lamps and the interior light should be LED.
2. Wireless charger is useless, Plastic and basically you put your phone on it and it just slides off. Doesn’t work with i phones as their camera sticks out and the charger is flat. Should be like the VAG chargers. Google it !
3. Shortcut switches. Should be one for driving mode, Surely put in an X Power button to light up which changes modes. Also should be more than the 2 on the wheel. I want one for eco mode and e pedal. Where the driving mode is just have 3 buttons, Eco. E Pedal. X Power.
4. Just put the heated seat buttons and steering wheel buttons out of the screen and make dedicated buttons.
5. Users - Surely this should be customisable to users, Seat positions, Mirror and what features to keep on and off (Lane assist needs to be off as default more than on)
6. App. Should have some more data on journeys like Nissan EV app. Has data per day, month.

Is lane keep assist still borderline suicidal or has it been fixed?
Still irritating.

Had my first emergency brake application slaloming between parked cars yesterday too, sharp enough to jolt the kids necks.

I'm getting an indicated 2.5miles in my X-power although with some charging losses and some lying by the computer the real figure will be nearer 2.

It also has the slight vibration from the front axle that some others have reported.
There were a couple of things that put me off the XPower and it is disappointing to see that at least one hasn't been resolved. LKA, the vibration and the range were the 3 main things.

The LKA should be easy to fix by either letting you set it to just a warning, remembering the setting last applied (not going to happen due to NCAP rating) or just dialling back the sensitivity. The vibration was being reported by almost all owners at motorway speeds and this is where I spend most of my time. The range is just a little too short for me but the actual car was great fun and very tempting.
Got a Feb 24 built x power and no vibrations

The argument that due to NCAP they cant let you set preset profiles with reduced LKA EBD is wrong. If it wasn’t how come I will be able to do so on my incoming Smart #1. The Mg has been a pleasant drive other than these two issues and the bloody radio loosing volume and needing the 10 second home button reset.

Is that recent ?
My 2020 Leaf you can turn off LKA and it stays off.

I was replying to the post above saying due to NCAP you can’t disable the systems as a default setting. On the MG4 you can dial the inputs/sensitivity down but only before you drive away in the car. If you get out and lock the car the settings revert to the factory extremely invasive settings. There was talk of a software update that enabled the ability to set your preferences as a preset on the steering wheel star button meaning it would require one press each time but it didn’t happen.

The Smart #1 allows users to set profiles for different drivers that remembers your preferences. Much better and less hassle.

1 year old X-powers with less than 5k miles on them are £25k now. That's got to be really tempting?

That’s a bit of a surprise, how much were they new?
