Funnily enough I'm looking for the same sort of thing. Comfy mid sized van for leisure purposes, needs to be automatic and reasonably well kitted - air con, cruise, Bluetooth, etc. Euro 6 as it'll be a lot easier to sell on in a few years.

Did consider a panel van, but 5 seats would be more useful more of the time.

Vito SWB crew cab is current favourite. Any particular issues with the Vitos from around 2016-2018? The automatic ones are all variations on the 2.1 diesel by the looks of it. The nav looks a bit dated but presumably it's easy enough to replace with an Android box.

Worth adding the stellantis medium size van MPVs
Citroen Spacetourer,
Vauxhall Vivaro Life,
Peugeot Traveller,
Fiat Sudo
slightly separate the Toyota Proace verso

In electric form the range is dreadful, 100mile range on average, more like 80 miles in the winter.

They have released a new facelift in the past few months and they are available to order, the range has been drastically increased with a new improved battery, faster charge time and a heat pump as standard.

Thanks all, some good info. Coincidentally I was at an MTB event last weekend so spent some time van-spotting!

Done a stack of research this week - concluded that the smaller options, Rifter/Berlingo/Connect are just too small (and generally underpowered too).

I think, realistically, I need to get Euro 6, and I also need to tread carefully around which options are classed or registered as 'MPV' (a car) or Minibus. Transporter Shuttles and other 9 seaterd drop into that category.

The Merc is going to be too expensive unfortunately, and whilst the VW's are cheaper and more abundant, it would have to be a T6 not a T5 and again the drives the price up significantly.

Leaving the Stellantis options - and the more I read, the more it appeals - very well reviewed, much, much, much better value and it seems they are actually quite good too - not just 'cheaper' but fundamentally a good product. The common to everything adblue issue is easily dealt with, other than that there are no real vices.

Should be able to get absolute top spec, 2 litre auto with leather, seats on rails, front and rear climate, android auto and every bit of kit for the same as a much, much higer mileage Euro 5 T5 with a basic panelled interior and bench seats.

i have tried to find a rental firm that has one I could use for a few days but no such luck. Need to get a dealer test drive i think.

Just avoid the electric version like the plague unless you like a range of 110 miles at best!

The diesels do hold their value far better than the electrics, and they are in far higher demand.

Electric power is not an option to me at all for this kind of vehicle!

For what it's worth I rented a new shape Fiat Scudo crew van last summer for a bike trip to the Alps. This was from a rental company just outside Cambridge. It was only moderately specced but I was impressed with it alongside Transit's we've had in previous years. I think it was the shorter wheelbase but it swallowed 6 bikes, people and lots of bags with ease and was comfortable for the nearly 2000 mile round trip

I've also just learnt that all the top spec Travellers/Vivaros/Spacetourers have a factory fit Webasto Thermo Top parking heater which is easily upgradeable with a remote control - this is a really, really useful feature for day-van/race van, camping and MTB use!

Just bought a Vito W447 combi/crew van, picking it up next week.

It's 2016 SWB/Compact, in Sport trim, with the 7 speed automatic and 160bhp 2.1 diesel engine. Spec is quite decent: air con, cruise/limiter, F&R parking sensors (and self parking!), reverse camera, and a rather archaic Becker audio system with nav, Bluetooth and USB.

Quite impressed at how plush and solid it is inside compared with the typical bare bones crew vans. It's basically the same inside as the Tourer, properly trimmed all the way through, but with just the one row of rear seats. It's nice enough to use as a family car, perhaps a bit too nice for the intended purpose of carrying mucky mountain bikes!

It's still classed as a van rather than MPV, but I'm not really bothered about that, 10mph less on NSL roads won't kill me.

I was put off the Stellantis ones by (a) their crew cabs having a fixed bulkhead and seats, and (b) lots of Adblue system issues. A Proace with low enough mileage to qualify for the Toyota Relax 10yr warranty would have negated that second problem, but the 180bhp diesel automatic versions are hard to find and very expensive.

I'll pop some pictures up once I've brought it home and given it my mandatory "new used car" deep clean and detail!

Oddly, the above was one of my main criteria for buying something that wasn't subject to van restrictions. I've got a new Vivaro through work and quite a lot of times I ginc bring limited to 50mph and also 60mph on dual carriageways quite stressful! I know it saves polaf bears and is much safer... apparently... but it can be a bit heavy going.

I do Fife to Northumberland regularly on the A1 so a huge portion of that trip would be at lower speed limits and having done it a few times in the company van, it's just so much more relaxed going with the flow and being able to keep up with most of the traffic.

Excellent - please do post up some photos and thoughts. It will almost certainly be a vehicle I have/had saved in my autotrader app!
