Cybertruck LMFAO

This is the design equivalent of the emperor’s new clothes.
I can’t imagine how many people during the design process thought “what the fk”?!?!? but were too scared to say anything.
Still… if you need a bullet proof monstrosity, and you are scared of curves, it’s a winner.

I think that’s exactly what’s happened. I can’t imagine how many people during the design process thought “what the fk”?!?!? but were too scared to say anything.

Imho it’ll be launched come what may, sell a few to the fans who think the Emperor’s suit looks really sharp, and then be quietly sidelined.
In a way its great that there’s one boss and what he says goes. Most big companies don’t run like this for good reason.
Hagerty have a good breakdown of the Cybertruck:

Jason (the presenter) is very good and balanced. And to be honest, its this stuff that I am interested in - the engineering and how it does things. Since Tesla has done nothing to communicate what is behind the design. But hey, maybe I am the freak here.
I would also disagree with a few comments - Jason claims that the CT is the first car to have drive by wire steering, but thats not correct. But hey, facts matter, right?

Oh and to get to the ranges that they want to talk about, you need to use a battery extender:
https://electrek.co/2023/11/30/tesla-cybertruck-ra...
Takes 1/3 of the bed and space and will add extra weight to the truck.

Which other vehicles have steer-by-wire without any form of mechanical backup? The Inifiniti models had a steering column with a clutch (in effect just a variation on the hydraulic system in the Citroen CX).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6WDq0V5oBg

Never watched him before, but my overall impression is very biased and uncritical.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6WDq0V5oBg

Engineering Explained did a video on the Lexus RZ steer by wire. This one was a prototype and not a showroom model, and it was 8 months ago, so I don't know if any of the issues he had have been fixed for production. mainly the slight lag between steering wheel and road wheel movement. I also don't know how similar the Lexus system is to the Cybertruck system.

From a Brit perspective he's always super enthusiastic, but when you get a flavour for his high and lows, he's genuine.
And he knows his onions, not just US stuff but esoteric European and Japanese cars too, and understands the engineering behind them.
If he’s as impressed as that then I’m happy to accept it’s moved the truck game on. It is a Tesla, after all.
It really didn’t need to look like Elon’s original wet dream to do that though.

I’ve seen a few vids referencing that the tonneau cover will support 300lbs. But what’s the point for anyone who wants to actually use the Cybertruck as a pickup? It’s sloped and there’s nothing to tie a load on to anyway. My crappy old L200 will take 330lbs on the cover and you can actually tie cargo on. It’ll do 400 miles on a single charge although 0-60 takes a while I’ll admit.
The range extender seems a decent idea on paper but it’s got to weigh a good 200-250kgs, so it’s going to need an engine hoist to lift it in. And that’s going to have to be a big hoist given the size of the truck. It’s going to be a semi permanent solution for people who want a larger range and less carry capacity I guess. Certainly not something you fit on the spur of the moment.

This interview with Jason Cammisa on the Cybertruck is really good. It's enjoyable, but if you want to skip ahead, jump to the one-hour mark. While opinions on its appearance and financial logic vary, the technical build is unparalleled. They'll sell as many as they can produce.

Well, I listened. The guy seems to have Tourettes and was almost jizzing himself talking about how "other" manufacturers are ten years behind, the wiper is amazing and you can fire ice balls at the windscreen. Not much depth, sorry I seem to be missing something, like a pathetic Joe Rogan wannabe. https://youtu.be/NjIPEtegPt4?si=bKazy-vFyYRzHw1g
