Toyota GR Yaris - Official! (Vol 2)
Discussion
Not hugely been following the GR Yaris stuff. However a small hot hatch run around would be quite handy, so have started paying attention lately. The asking price for early cars seems to be quite high to me - are they actually selling for high £20’s at 3 years old still? Will the MK2 be as desireable and potentially push the Mk1 price downwards?
All advice/thoughts most welcome!

Given there's going to be a ballot to secure one of the MK2 cars and it's limited to those who own one, or are on the wait list, it's not going to be widely available. To me, that indicates that anyone who was waiting for the MK2 is now more likely to settle on a MK1 and that's likely to keep prices pretty buoyant. Throw in the fact that the new one is £10k more than they sold the old one for and I can't see that having a major impact on prices either. All advice/thoughts most welcome!

The WBAC price for my 3.5 year old car with 12K is 24.5K. The announcement of the new car has probably helped keep prices of the older model high due to the increase in price compared to the first one. Early adopters like myself only paid 33.5K for the car. This increased over the 2.5 years to 36.5K and the new one is £44K. Access to the new car will be limited initially to current owners (Pre 2022) and those who were of the waiting list before 2022 which will then be allocated via a ballot. I would have probably taken one if lucky enough to get the golden ticket but I'm not a fan of the new front end.All advice/thoughts most welcome!
The new high price will also I suspect limit the scope for a quick flip. I not sure there will be much demand at £47-48K which is the minimum I'd be looking for if I was looking for a quick flip. However if there is then a £28-30K 3 year old car with 7 years of warranty left will look like a bit of bargain.

Thanks - are they seriously restricting build numbers on the MK2? £45K seems a sizeable chunk of cash for a Yaris…. So it may work out for Toyota I guess if build numbers are low, if build numbers are quite high then the cost coupled with much higher finance rates is I suspect likey to stall sales to an extent?
They’re not restricting them so much, it’s more that they can only build so many. With the first car, the factory had about 18 months building pretty much only the Yaris before the Corolla was introduced and at that point the production rate slowed considerably as the Corolla took up a lot of capacity. This production rate looks to continue with the mk2, meaning there won’t be 5-6,000 of them heading for the UK, for example.

Is production of the Corolla going to pause for a while? I know that for much of 2023 only 8 GRY were being made a day. Explains why my July 2021 order didnt get to me until November last year! One less GRY.
Cat B. Ideal if someone, with connection to the trade, is looking for a parts car.

There are a few deliveries still being made
Deliveries or just cancelled orders waiting for homes? I took delivery of mine in november and the dealer said there were 12 cancelled pre-orders left but that was about it.Just had its 6 month safety check (wouldnt have bothered but the service plan had to include it apparently). On my car one of the roof rail elements isnt stuck down at the front, garage said it was a relatively common thing and they have ordered a new one. They'll ring me once it is in and need the car for about an hour in the bodyshop.

The safety check is not needed to maintain the warranty. Interesting that the service plan requires it. Requires it for what? Do you mean includes it?
Service plan doesn’t require it. Just upselling from the dealer. I had it removed along with MOT’s. Just an FYI I picked up a very occasional misfire after around 30,000 miles. On a trip to Scotland it then became a 20min spell of being intermittent then the next 500miles nothing. I was expecting it to be a cool pack as I’ve seen these to be a common thing but saw a post on the zoo for spark plugs at 30k looking rather sorry for themselves. Toyota say 60k change.
So ordered some new plugs (same as R35 GTR) and the issue has gone and if anything feels to run better than before the misfire.

Thats why I orignally asked for them to remove the safety checks from the service plan but the garage said they couldnt, it was all or nothing. Considering some of the jumps in the prices of servicing since I ordered the car I took a gamble and just went for the three year service plan tihnkning the cost of the safety checks would be less than the price increases in the services. Annoying that this seems dealer specific as ecsrobin was able to remove them.
The dearler was good about booking me in first thing. I was only there for about 45 minutes.
