Thinking of buying a used Taycan 4s.

They seem good value to what they were 6 months ago. The supposed 87% retained value was obviously nonsense.

I’m not worried about depreciation buying used but wondered if there are any common issues to look out for?

I’m not a EV fan in all honesty. I’m just wary of what a labour government will do to ICE drivers. I can see ULEZ going nationwide.

I’d be much happier if the ridiculous 2030 ban never happens. It won’t make any difference to climate change.

I don’t do many miles these days so charging infrastructure isn’t a huge issue.

I was thinking a decent spec 4s seems relatively good value.

ULEZ is all over after the Uxbridge by-election. It won't happen now all the smug socialist politicos realise people don't want it and will vote them out.
I hope you’re right.

The madness needs to stop.

They are great cars to drive - I had an order in for a GTS Sport Turismo after having a day long test drive, but Porsche dicked about on delivery times, specifications and then started to have a string of technical issues (mentioned above) so I binned the order off. I'd have likely had mine a few months now - dodged a bullet.

I'd still like one, but as someone else mentioned above, won't be touching the prospect for a while longer, even at current used prices. I think there is still more to come out of the woodwork on issues, and still a lot more depreciation to happen. I'm also interested to see how range progresses as the cars get a bit older.

Keep a close eye on the approved used site. Cars hang around on there for ages and end up dropping by chunks.

Should a Labour govt come in and start offering tax incentives on used cars, prices might firm up. But that's as likely to happen on cars at this end of the market as my arse is of healing over smile
You got off lightly there for sure.

Last time I looked at cars they were selling for overs and owners were going on about bullet proof residuals. I can’t get my head round how that has turned on its head so quickly.

There seems to be some real bargains for sale privately, but approved used makes sense with these cars more than a 911 or regular Porsche.

I’m definitely going to wait and see what happens. Supply is way outstripping demand with these at the moment.

I’m guessing they are not popular with female drivers which won’t be helping either.

Definitely going to wait after looking today.

2020 4s cars look expensive compared to 2021 turbo’s.

Will definitely be going for a turbo. Crazy value compared to 6 months ago. Will be interesting to see what values are like in dec/Jan.

ULEZ is not about climate change, its about human health, its estimated 22k people die each year due to poor air quality and particulates.
This is the type of BS they will used to take it nationwide. People believe anything these days.

If air quality was killing people a lot more than 22k people would die a year.

I wold go turbo as well, amazing value now !!

My turbo Dec 2020 with £30k of extras and 31k miles on the clock is probably worth about £70-£75k in the trade at the moment which. think is excelent value v my new one I have ordered at £140k

Phib
Normally I have at least a couple of cars on my shortlist.

The way prices have gone over the last 6 months, nothing compares to the Taycan for me.

Pricing just seems to be all over the place atm. I’ve never seen anything like it.

From what I can work out there seems to be five types of pricing :

1. New cars very small discount if its physical
2. Porsche who have used cars on site , aim high and then drop by chunks every two weeks until they get sold especially ST
3. Non Porsche dealers who have had them 6 + months and are in denial and in may cases are priced higher than Porsche main dealers
4. Private individuals that need to sell and our sensible
5. Private individuals that are in big negative equity but till belive their car is worth a fortune becease when they bought it they were paying overs!!

Hence the prices for the same model, spec and age can vary massively even though there really is no difference !

Just my 2p worth !!

Phib
You seem bang on.

Some keenly priced private cars, but most buyers prefer to buy off a dealer with £60k plus cars that aren’t in short supply.

I assumed 99% of Taycans would be business leases, but there are quite a few for sale privately on AT.

I usually prefer to buy used cars privately but I’m not sure I’m brave enough with a Taycan. OPC for piece of mind seems the best bet.

Which options would Taycan owners recommend?

Tbf I haven’t seen one with a poor spec. Just don’t want to buy a car missing an option I regret later.

Thanks for the option tips. Pan roof and full leather were 2 I knew I wanted but I thought 4 wheel steering was standard.

I would def order a 4s if I was buying new but Turbos are really good value used.

Definitely going for a Taycan. Was almost tempted by a M850i but a Taycan suits the type of mileage I do much better.

Not too fussed about body style. Will buy on spec and condition.

Just for a little bit of input, after 31k in my taycan (4 door turbo one) I have been hankering after a CT for months now, finally in a position where i sorted various bits and bobs out to make it happen and went and drove one .....

They drive quite differently to a 4 door one, I am not going to say worse or better becease in my view now they both met different needs.

This is probably not suprising but I didnt think it would be so pronounced, CT certainly softer ride, more body roll and bit more diving under heavy breaking but certainly much better suited on UK roads.

Go back in my turbo and it felt tighter and more sports car like but crashes more relatively over the bumps and imperfections.

So CT not for me, I am of to try the ST next ... if I can find one, for some reason they dont seem very popular and have the worst residulas which is great if you want a lightly used one.

Re depreciation / cost / tax, yes the depreciation is bad but its the only car currently that I want as a daily, just suits all of my needs, mine replaced a 911 Turbo and there is no way I wold go back to that over the Taycan.

Phib
If the ST has the worst residuals I’d be all over one. It’s my fav. Seen a black one with a roof box and it looked great.

Saloon has grown on me massively since I have been looking but the CT isn’t for me.

Have to admit if I had a 911 Turbo the only car I’d be happy swapping it for would be a GT3.

I would take the Taycan over the gt3 any day… bold statement I know but ….

It does massively depend on what you are doing with it !

I wouldn’t daily a GT3 but would and do the Taycan

I did used to daily a 2.7rs lightweight in the very late 90’s though !! Story for another day.

Phib
If I had a GT3 I would daily it until I wasn’t physically able.

2.7rs is a special car.

Reality is that a Taycan suits me much better.

Had a brief look at M850i’s, but I’m sticking with the Taycan plan.

Was having a bit of a play with the configurer this morning and there is a range calculator based on options and it seems my car (without meaning to do) gets pretty much the highest milage i.e. a saloon with 20 inch wheels (turbo / big battery)

Mine should get 257 miles (and it does)
Mine with 21 wheels 238 miles
Turbo ST 21's 236
Turbo ST 20's 249

So basically the size of wheel does seem to make a big difference in fact 20 miles of range

The Turbo wheels are my favourite out of all the factory options.

Although some aftermarket options look really good on the Taycan.

What are private owners paying for insurance?

Quotes are horrific. Like Escort Cosworth 90’s horrific.

Adding.

Man math would net this off with lower charging cost (I'd scrounge at work) and lower maintenance while keeping OPC warranty.

Still 200% the cost of running the Macan. Way off still.
I was shocked by the quote. I think insurance must be one of the biggest reasons for the price collapse.

I can’t bring myself to pay that. It would put a dampener on the whole experience of owning one for me.

£5k and some quotes were significantly higher. Add deprecation and extended warranty and it’s scary.

Think I will go for a 991 or AMG GTS.
