There's a post from his wife on FB saying that only people she had personally contacted were welcome at the funeral, and that that would only be people who had attended their wedding - are we sure it's cool if any of us lot show up? I wouldn't want to deepen anyone's distress by rocking up when unwelcome for all that I very, very much want to say goodbye.
Do you really think CB & I would put it on here without her blessing? Especially as it outlines her request to us in the OP!
The tone and content of the message she put up pretty directly conflicts with this one - who of us lot went to their wedding? - so yeah, actually, I absolutely did think it was possible there was some misunderstanding or disagreement there.

We're all hurting, let's not attack each other too eh?
I wasn't at their wedding but people posting on here were.

I believe that CBs post was after talking to Russ' wife and later than her FB post. Unless I hear otherwise from either CB or Ali-kat I think the misunderstanding is over.

Excuse me? I'm on the defence to YOUR attack - we have clearly stated that these are his WIFE's wishes in the OP, and it is dated after that post of FB so why do you feel then need to challenge this?

Do you really disrespect DMN so much? And how dare you try to imply that we do!

thank you.

JP is correct - CB & I and our partners (& others) were at their wedding. We are also in pretty much daily contact with his widow & the family; we have been asked to be the ones to communicate with their friends & PH in order to save Mrs DmN the pain of repetition

Please show respect and let this matter rest

I'm sorry you're hurting, Ali. I wasn't trying to add to that. Please stop trying to hurt me. I double checked because there was a discrepancy between the way things had been very firmly worded on the Facebook post, and here. I am duly reassured. There was no attack.

If you actually read the OP you'd see there was NO discrepancy

I strongly suggest you drop the subject

Not wanting to prolong things, but neither person appeared to be attacking the other reading the messages as an outsider, it looks like a mix up when people are hurting. I can understand FlyingMeeces asking as if there was a misunderstanding - it is better to sort it out online, rather things go differently than wished at the funeral. There was no way for a lot of people to know which post came first, as even if you check the posting times she may have changed her mind but not informed everyone (or assumed the other post would be used).

RIP driving_me_nuts. I didn't know him personally, but did recognise his posting on here and he seemed a decent guy.

Sorry for the silence my side, up to my eyes in it with work.

James is spot on, I spoke with Jeanette who said "all PHers welcome, he loved the community, it would be what he wanted"

No sharing of funeral details on public FB as there are certain people who neither he nor her would want attending.

Kill the forum bickering ladies and gents, it's all good, let's make it a good day thumbup

I never met him but chatted on PH before now. Remember reading the other thread about his heart attack and being glad he was ok. Gutted, a great forum member who will be missed. I will strap a teddy in the car this weekend when racing as someone pointed out he always traveled with one. Condolences to his family and friends, much love to you all!

Was it his heart in the end?

Read his thread and thought he was making good progress.

Terrible, terrible shame.

Balls.

I'm working on the 16th and as ever, it's my "duty" week. I'm off today but I'll be looking tomorrow if I can get the Tuesday off. If I can, it'll be a there and back for me in the day. I'm not hopeful though, as of course, it's August and people on my team are already on leave.

If I can't get the day off, I'll be making sure I'm somewhere quiet at 2.15 to give DMN a couple of minutes of my day.

So sorry, I've just started a new job and won't be able to make it. It grieves me. He was a Trivial Thread stalwart with whom I am glad to have shared on-line banter, the occasional email, one very long lunch and a love of thick cut marmalade.

I miss you, Russ, and think of you often.

Dibble & Dicky - Don't worry, spare a thought and raise a smile at 2:15 and a glass in the evening, Russ would have said that work cones first; you know that!

I hear him telling me not to take the day off because 'little old me isn't worth it' (as a contractor I'll not get paid). Sorry Russ, but you are worth it to me smile

Ali, I don't know if I've missed it, but can those of us who can't attend the funeral contribute to a charity? Lily's hospice perhaps?

Jeanette has asked for donations to BHF as Russ was intending to do a sponsored bike ride for them

RIP DMN

Never had the chance to speak to him, but his posts on here always showed him to be utterly selfless, and willing to help any and all. You will be missed!
