That's not great news. On the plus side it sounds like they got it early and are confident of a good outcome.

Best of luck to Dean!

Best of luck to him
my friend had it at a similar age (18) and it's vital to make sure you check
and catch anything early.

Shocked to see this online today. Had a scare myself a couple of years back, turned out to be nothing serious but even that was scary as hell! Just want to wish Dean all the best, and a speedy recovery. I think I can safely say we all look forward to seeing him behind the wheel again!

Apologies for the thread revival but there is a great piece (and interview) on Dean in the new Evo Magazine. I had no idea about any of it, amazing human being.

Will have a look out for that, although the way he is driving this year he will need to be careful that he doesn't end up back in hospital. There's hard and fair and there's crossing the line and that move on Meadows should have left Stoneman sitting on his arse holding his nose after the race if it wasn't a licence loser.

Inappropriate and ill informed.

Great that Dean has come back to the sport - we may never know how he would have faired in WSR 3.5 and beyond, but he's proving his race craft and speed this year. I have always been a massive fan, and continue to be so - fingers crossed he bags the Championship.

I disagree.

In appropriate? No I don’t think so, not on a thread that is now about his return after a very serious medical issue which he has fought against and it would appear beaten. I have nothing but respect for the way in which he has handled his illness and also thought that he had the possibility to go to FR3.5 and well beyond before he was struck down by it.

That said some of his driving this year, whilst unquestionably quick and committed, has gone well over line.

Start at 3:25. That move on Meadows was one of the worst pieces of driving I have seen this year, BTCC included. Calculated, intentional and Fing dangerous.

It was a great article in Evo. I hadn't realised the full extent of his cancer. I'd heard about the testicular cancer, but I hadn't realised how it had affected the rest of his body.

Regarding Thruxton: An unfortunate move, and Meadows wasn't to blame. But to say it was calculated is a step too far. If you are on the wrong line at turn one (he was - on the outside) it is incredibly difficult to stay left all the way to the complex with dirty, cold tyres on bumpy track. There's several places at Thruxton where with the combination of speed, bumps and 'curving straights' frankly you end up going where the car's going (Noble into Goodwood being another example).

Meadows is right to be aggrieved, but I didn't judge that as calculated or delibrate. I'm not sure what the stewards thought though.

Racing hard yes, fair not IMHO. That move on Meadows was dangerous driving.

I did think some of his driving at Thruxton was very desperate. I was there on the BTCC race day, rooting for him of course. I thought, he pretty much threw away the race with a very ambitious move trying to outbrake two cars in to Campbell from a long way back and ended up in the grass at the start.

I was also there at the opening race (for the Carrera Cup) on Brands and was very glad to have witnessed him winning from pole. Lining up for his first race back:

He was untouchable there even in the hail/snow! smile

I think its great to see Dean back racing again, at brands he just made them all look a bit silly.

Not sure you can call the thruxton move "calculated", as someone else said its probably more where the car wanted to go. In hindsight? he probably wouldn't have gone for the same move again ? at least not to that extent.

I hope he can progress from this championship to the FIA Carrera cup (I believe that is his plan).
